Counter service costs

For those of you who do mostly counter service meals for your trip (and pay OOP, not on the dining plan)...how much do you usually spend? Trying to figure out costs if we don't do the DDP (we're DVC so don't get free dining). Or maybe a better question is do you each eat two CS meals per day or is that too much food? It's DH and I, plus DD4 and DS(almost 2). If we don't do the DDP, we'll probably eat breakfast in the room or grab a quick snack. I figure our kids can share a CS meal as DD doesn't eat much. I figured the days we don't do a TS that DH and I will each have two CS meals but maybe that's too much food since we do like snacks...maybe we'll share more CS than we're thinking. Any thoughts from those who do mostly CS? Thanks!

I know for us two combo meals run just shy of $20. Planning $10 per person for meal and drink gives you a good starting point.

WE too are DVC & have done DDP & not done DDP. Have DD 7 & DD4. When we went when DD2, we would always share our food (@buffets you don't pay if under 2). We usually eat b'fast in room too. If we are trying to do "cheaper" trip, you can spend less not doing DDP even eating CS (we don't do desserts on CS if not on DDP/might eat offsite & we take our own sodas/water).

If you want to do character meals/nicer places (leCellier), I'd do DDP. If you are flying/can't take snacks/don't have transportation, I'd probably go w/DDP.

Hope that helps some....it can be a hard call but w/young kids, staying w/a scheduled meal as DDP requires can be difficult & not worth it. We've "planned" on getting back to the room by 3 for a nap & dinner @ 6 then didn't get back to the room til 4 & dinner had to be cancelled if it was at another place an hour away.

a P.s. You might want to consider QSDP....if you do a lot of CS & you like snacks, it might be the way to go. Lots of desserts but some can be substitued for something that can be a b'fast food (like Earl of Sandwich MUFFIN crowns). We haven't done it but plan to esp when staying at OKW OR SSR where you can get some of the GOOD CS @DTD.
