I'm trying to get some fun ideas for a countdown calendar. I did the chain last year. Anyone have any ideas for using the Mickey heads from Home Depot? I have 4 months still! I don't start until 30 days. I really want my girls to be excited! Thanks:thumbsup2

You can create something like an Advent Calendar, where you can make a countdown calendar, and then the girls can tape/hang Mickey heads on the days counting down to the big day.

Maybe they can put down rides/shows/parades they want to experience on the Mickey heads - one per head - as you count down.

Maybe you can do something like the tickers people have on these boards. Put up a long piece of paper with the number of days written on it and move the Mickey head forward each day. You can decoarate the paper with disney stuff or maybe your kids could help decorate it with disney stickers, paper, etc. You could put a picture of DL at the end and maybe along the way (every 10 days or so?) you can mark a couple of "special" days where they get some little disney trinket or they get something they will take on the trip.

I do a ticker and just use my mickey calender to start a count down . I just put disney stickers over the days that pass. time is going by soooo fast.

I made a scrap book with pictures of us at the park so every day starting at day 12 we are able to flip the pages and count down. Every page is a different theme and it reminds us as to what we are going to enjoy in a short time.

I like all of those ideas, I was thinking maybe create a box that will have a little cubby with a door, so as to place one or more little items in, and then with each progressing day, one would open the little drawer, and see what surprise is waiting for you. Target stores have a calendar like that for Halloween, it can be used for that first, then redecorate it, for Disneyland.

Great ideas! Can't wait to get started. Planning is just as fun as going!

What I did with the MMH's is get a large sheet of poster board. I found an awesome design on the DISign forum (thanks Rumblytumbly!!), and printed it off. I then cut out an awesome design of Stitch and put it in the middle of the poster board. I then put "Our family trip to DL Countdown Calendar" on the top. Then I numbered the Mickey Mouse heads, and scattered them around the poster board. I made a 45 day countdown calendar, and the idea is that the kids can take turns taking off one MMH each day. Hopes this gives you an idea of what to do with the Mickey Mouse heads. Have a great day!!:goodvibes

Thanks for starting this thread. I have been thinking about doing one for my daughter. The trip was going to be a surprise, but I feel as if I am keeping all the excitement to myself and not allowing her to be in on the fun of looking forward to going to Disneyland (especially since she knows her friends are going).

I saw an idea on another thread of taking images and putting one for each day tied together. The kids would tear one off each day (and it would say how many days until the trip). I was thinking these could be images that could be colored and be of all the different characters or rides or something. You can take pictures and put them in photoshop and turn them into outlines.

We have friends who are going at the same time and I was going to make one for them as well. I was hoping to get some different ideas so each child could have their own.

Thanks again. :)
