I've just never visited one. Is it like Ponderosa where you order steak, pay, then sit? Are there waitresses who bring drinks or is it more like Sweet Tomatoes. Or is it more like a Disney buffet. All you care to eat. I've been to their website but just don't get how it works.

:confused3

Hi...yest it is simular... we always did Ponderosa but now do Golden Coral and use the one on SR535 by the I4

Thanks. I was really hoping it was more like a Disney buffet. I really prefer salad and a bunch of veggies.

they do have a big salad area

and it is all buffet style very substantial

you get your plate and go ....you do not order Numbered offerings

if you really wants salads and veggies you might want to consider Sweet Tomatoes at the corner of International drive and Kirkman road....just down from Universal Studios....it is soup salads and pastas

That's pretty far from where we're staying. Also, my son is a meat lover. So, if you don't do the number-ordering thing and it's all buffet, does that mean they have chafing dishes of meat, or something?

It's like a Disney buffet with chafing dishes and meat carvers. There are (generally) 4 large areas with sides, main, salad, soup, dessert and kids areas.

If you go to the one by AKL off of Sherberth there is a coupon book just inside the door that gives you 10% off.

IMHO Golden Corral is way beyond Ponderosa. There is much more. You pick up a tray and drink, pay, and either seat yourself or someone will seat you if it's busy. A waitress will refill your drink and bring plates to your table and clear away the used ones. You're free to get what and as much as you want. Usually have steaks, shrimp, fish, stew, chicken a number of ways, something carved (ham, turkey or beef), pizza, tons of salads, rolls, lots of dessert. It's making me hungry thinking about it.

We love Golden Corral, and usually go 2-3 times during our 9 day visit. You pay the adult or child price, buy your drink and then get your table.

Oh, my goodness. It sounds wonderful. We will definitely give it a shot. It sounds like we should have a long time ago.

Thanks, all. I actually get it now. :yay:

We went to the one on I4...and it was not an experience I want to repeat.

We went the year we were with the inlaws who are ALL about saving money.

Maybe it was my timing - it was thanksgiving week.

It was very very very crowded.

There were parents YELLING at their young children. Just over the top crude yelling.

There did not seem to be enough staff to clean up the tables.
I just remember that there was a lot of food on the floors, and it seemed kinda unclean to me.

it was VERY crowded. It was not like a disney buffet.

The food was fine, and there was a lot of it, but due to the conditions of the tables, I was concerned about cleanliness in general, and it kinda turned my appetite off. It was very cheap..

We were just there last week for breakfast - we went to the one right outside the gates from Downtown Disney. It was dead, we were the only people in there - it was good, but, a few years ago we went to the one near the Premium Outlets and it was bigger and had more food, and I believe it was less expensive.

We usually go just before 4:00 to get dinner at lunch prices.

I miss Golden Corral. We used to go all of the time when we lived in N.C. We don't have one close to us here in eastside Detroit. The closest one is in Port Huron, about an hour away. I think there is one in Westland, but that's like an hour away, too.

We'll definitely be hitting the GC when we go to Orlando next year!

Never been to the one there- but genally speaking GC has good quality and variety. :thumbsup2 Make sure to put the honey butter on your fresh roll. Plenty to choose not matter your likes or dislikes- healthy or just GOOD. :cool1: I am sure it is not a Disney buffet- I get to try those for the first time in a couple weeks- WooHoo! :yay: :yay: :yay: But with buffets I think timing is everything. We like to go at beginning before too many coughs or sneezes on food. LOL ;) Usually less crowded too- 10:30 lunches or 4:30 dinners- plus you can make it last for 2 meal times (B&L or L&D) Save money and less crowd.:woohoo:

Thank you for all the great replies but now I wonder, about what is the luch price and about what is the dinner price? We do eat early.

TIA.

Sorry Kay I cannot answer ??s about times but oh wow! My teens love this place. There are very healthy choices if you want them as well as a cholesteral package!
Really great food for a buffet and wonderful staff, they are so kind. Please remember to tip for good service.

Thanks once more. Those are very reasonable prices and I'll BOLO for that magazine.

I'll be sure to tip, too. We always tip at buffets because we know how hard the servers work. :)
