OK, so I know I want to see a lot in one day, but since I'm used to Disney vacations I know how to go go go!!!

We are staying at the Grand Californian for a few days in June and we'd like to take a day trip to LA and I was thinking of doing the following starting first thing in the morning:

Park at Hollywood and Highland
walk around this are and see Gauman's Chinese Theater and walk of fame
La Brea Tar Pit (I assume we have to drive there) spend an hour or so in the museum.
Have late lunch at Pink's Hot Dog Stand
Walk around Farmers Market
Then drive up to Santa Monica

I'd also like to include a drive-by of Rodeo, Sunset Stip and any other cool areas to see.

Any suggestions or comments would be most welcome!!! :cheer2:

OK, so I read through Fairycat's VERY helpful sticky at the top of the board and revised our itinerary. Plus I maped things out on Googlemaps so I got a better "lay of the land". And here is what I came up with, keep in mind we are going on a Sunday :goodvibes

8am breakfast at The Griddle Cafe
(One of my guidebook lists an address right near the cafe as having a good view of the Hollywood sign!)
After Breakfast go to the Hollywood and Highland complex to park and walk around the area. If we didn't get a good view of the Hollywood sign then check out the balcony for a view.
Go to La Brea Tar Pits
Go to the Farmers Market
Go to Pinks somewhere in between depending on appetites and length of line.
Have dessert at Pinkberrys
Drive down Santa Monica Blvd and pass through Beverly Hills
Take Santa Monica Blvd to Ocean Ave
I'd like to be in Santa Monica by 5pm so we can also see Muscle Beach and Venice Beach before dark. From what I understand we can walk (or maybe rent bikes) from the Santa Monica Pier south to these locations.
Possibly have dinner at the place Fairycat recommended but that seems north of Santa Monica right? Is it in Malibu?

Sounds like a fun LONG day ;)

Ok unless you want to be stuck in traffic all day you might want to adjust your list

I would suggest

DCH to Hollywood and Highland
To Pinks on Melrose
Then over to La Brea Tar Pits

If you want to drive by Rodeo you can on the way back to the freeway if you see the post on Beverly Hills and Wilshire in this thread it will give you some site seeing ideas and what you can see from the car

From there I would suggest skipping taking the freeway all the way down to Santa Monica and take Sunset Blvd down to the coast. Maybe eat at Gladstone's.

One helpful tip sure you can head back to the hotel at 5pm but it might take you 3 hours to get back. Instead stay in the area for dinner and head back after 8pm and it might only take you an hour to get back.

Thank you for the advice! I should also add that we will be doing our LA day on a Sunday in hopes to avoid the weekday traffic!!

im planning a trip out myself and a freind reccomended metal skool (now called steel panthers) at the key club as something to do monday nights.
