Could the campground be totally packed all of February?

I think what you will find at FW in January is a lot of retired people. They may have plenty of time, but I would NOT say they have plenty of money. My parents have an RV and they do NOT have plenty of money. They do, however, spend the month of January at FW. It is extremely economical for them. They have annual passes and spend most days at the parks. But, they eat plenty of meals in the camper.

One of the reasons the parks are not crowded is that you do not find as many day guests as during vacations and summers. The families are not there. We spent 11 days with my parents this year and we saw very few school-aged children. There were retired people and families with small children. It is a very nice time to go.

You are right about it being a good way to live. I don't think FW allows year-round campers. They do allow 6 months though.

The RV think is good except there is an excise tax in most states. So, you do not really get out of paying property tax if you register in one of those states.

FW does need to fill up the sites in the slow winter months. A CM told us that they used to be booked up year round many years ago, but that is just not the case now. I can tell you that this is not a pilot program. It has been going on for several years. Some retirees actually now work at FW during their stay.

That sounds great for retirement...long ways off...I want to drive the little boat.

Stiil, it might not be your idea of "plenty of money", but you have to admit, its more than most elderly folks can afford.

We just returned today from nine days at FW and yes it was pretty full but there were empty sites. We were able to stay in our favorite loop - 700 and there were empty spots in that loop as well as others that we ventured into. I was expecting the parks to be crowded based on the lack of availability of campsites but the parks were not crowded during the week. Yes the weekends were crowded, probably due to locals, but during the week it was pretty empty. We went to Epcot when it opened and we were able to walk onto Test Track three times in a row with no wait at all. I would have loved to go again but DH was wanting to see other things. We also did the Extra Magic Hours at Magic Kingdom one evening and almost everything was walk on. Even walked onto Peter Pan and that always has a wait.
