What am I, a third-grader? I've been working on a stupid word puzzle for 3 DAYS now. Just stuck on unscrambling one word. The instructions say that it is a "simple word." It was a puzzle from the paper, so I can probably go to some website to get the answer, but I feel like a moron. I know you all will eagerly prove that I am. :rotfl2:

Ok, here it is:

INNOWW

W-T-H???:confused3 I can't figure this out.

It's winnow but I don't see how that's a simple word. I don't hear it in everday language!

You guys are fantastic! I kept coming up with winnow and then I thought, na, that's not a word. Fully did not expect to have to get out the dictionary.

This is why I don't do newspaper puzzles...too much thinking!

Winnow was the first thing that came to mind for me....but being from Maine it is a fairly common word - a Winnowing machine is what is used to separate raked blueberries from grass, weeds etc. The bucket of berries is dumped on the belt and machine blows the grassy stuff out one end and deposits the berries in a box on the other end.....Its design hasn't changed much in 150 years....if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
