Could someone staying at CBR walk over to Riviera and take the bus there?

I don't know where the Riviera bus stop is located in relation to the Riviera building.

It's at the front entrance of the Riviera. The Skyliner is near the back side entrance so you have to go into the resort then out to the front and walk down a bit. In some cases, it's faster to take the Riviera Skyliner from CBR rather than the CBR stop but I'm not sure if it's faster to take the Riviera bus if you're at CBR. OTOH, if you pass through the lobby and get a nice cup of coffee from the coffee shop there and then go to the buses, maybe it's worth it.

Party of 8 staying in Trinidad. How crowded will the busses be when they reach our stop?

Impossible to say with any accuracy. But in our experience, you will be able to board the first bus you see for your destination every time.

Are we the last stop?

If it's the early morning rush when they split the buses, you will be last out of 4 stops. If it's during the slower part of the day you will be 4th out of 6 stops.

I have heard the bus situation at CBR in not the best. Any advice, we like to rope drop and attend EMH

The bus situation is no worse than any other WDW resort. We have stayed at every WDW resort now and have the most, by far, nights at CBR. In our opinion the buses have been great. Whenever we stay at CBR, we are at the bus stop 45-50 minutes before rope drop and have never missed one yet. Not even close.
