Is spring REALLY that close? LOL! I just got my Michigan Bulb catalog, and I have not been able to put it down! With all of our landscaping to start this spring, I have WAY more plans than I will have time or money to accomplish this coming spring! Anyone want to help plan? :teleport:

While it has little to do with gardening, the arrival of my Sears Spring & Summer catalogue is always a sign that good things (warmer weather :)) are indeed on their way. My catalogue arrived last week! :)

Yup, it's only months away. What sort of ideas did you have?
I want to start with some perennial beds this year and maybe a few shrubs and trees. I wont be able to do up near the house quite yet, because there are still some things the contractor has to finish. I have a very long driveway, so I would like to do some ground cover day lillies on one side and maybe some sort of low maintenance free ground cover on the side that has a steep slope to it. Any suggestions for that? We are zone 4 and the driveway is 1/10 mile long.

We just sent off our plant orders.::yes::.::yes::. Yeah!!! :cool1: I would love to help you plan! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Yeah for sping!!!!

I'm looking for some suggestions for perennials that will give me color all season long in front of a split rail fence. This is to accent our log home.

Diane, you shouldn't have any problem with Black-eyed Susans (Rudbeckia) in your zone. :) I think they'd look great against your fence. :)

Purple Coneflower (Echinacea) would look good also! The Echinacea "Sunset" & "Sunrise" featured on the link below are very pretty.

Using daylilies is a great idea! Two that I have, that I'm pleased with, "Strawberry Candy", and "Pardon Me" would be suitable for your area.

The link below showcases lots of daylilies hardy for your zone. :)

How about some Blanket Flowers (Gaillardia). Many of them would work, and they're very easy to grow.

Do you like Hydrangeas? Do you have a spot with dappled or afternoon shade? How about a beautiful Endless Summer hydrangea?

I'd love one of those! :)

Actually, Kim, they were growing wild out here last summer. I want to put a variety of plants with taller ones against the fence and shorter ones in front. I would like blooms all summer and into fall if possible. I know I can over plant the spring stuff, but I have to decide whatelse to put in.

Which ones did you have growing wild, Diane, the Black-eyed Susans?

The coneflowers are fairly tall, or how about some Delphiniums, Hollyhocks or Foxglove?

Check out this link. Click on the bottom of the page also, on 'Perennials' for lots of other ideas. :) Sedum would give you the fall colour you're looking for.

Snow in Summer is an easy, fairly short ground cover, although it can sometimes be invasive.
