Now that 2004 is upon is, dh and I are starting to think about our travel plans for this year. We're going to Disney in August 2005 with my extended family so we're thinking about going somewhere else this year. We've never done an all inclusive trip together so we're considering going this April. How's April in terms of cost and weather? I've heard that the Dominican is a good place to go, any thoughts?

Another possibility is to wait and just go to Disney in September and buy an annual pass which we'd use again in August 2005. I'm leaning towards going somewhere else in April instead, but I'd love to hear your thoughts! FYI, these trips will only consist of dh and myself. Thanks so much!

Those were the days!!:D

We're partial to Sandals ourselves...having said that - we've also gone to the DR...and really enjoyed it too.

Stayed in Sosua - cool little town, far enough from the airport, but not too far...Playa Dorada resorts are nice, but the beach is nicer in Sosua JMO:D Punta Cana is gorgeous, but we were there before direct flights flew into that airport, read: wasn't as developed. Just booked my BIL and SIL into Sosua Bay Hotel...reviews and cost are good. $2500/two air in/week from Hfx

April's weather is really nice and WARM!! Cost - obviously, goes up around Easter, and some resorts do curtail their activities Easter week ( higher end ones usually don't)

Wherever you go, relax, enjoy...its a COMPLETELY different vacation from WDW...love those afternoon siestas!!;) ;)

I haven't been to the Dominican, although everyone I've spoken to who's been has spoken highly of it. If you're looking for something where you just flake on the beach, anywhere in the Caribbean will be nice. Personally, though, I'm not much of a flaker. If you're looking for something a little more touristy, I can tell you that Cancun is wonderful in many ways. We spent our honeymoon there, and loved it. We spent a lot of time doing side trips, and weren't at the hotel much. The seafood there is wonderful (I remember this little restaurant which had the most phenomenal grilled shrimp), and there's a good time to be had for all tastes. It's also not that far from some wonderful Mayan ruins - Tulum, Coba, Xel Ha, etc.

We stayed at the Tu Cancun, which is a mid-range all-inclusive.

If you're interested, and have any questions, let me know.

Ciao,
Mort.

We went to the DR last Nov and loved it. The beaches were the best I have ever seen and it is very reasonably priced. We just wanted to flake and never left the hotel grounds but there were many tours offered (snorkelling, jeep tours etc) depending on your interest.

I love going to WDW but find it in no way relaxing. Sometimes you really need a little R&R.

Thanks for your replies! Any idea on what kind of cost we're talking about for a 4*, all inclusive, in DR for one week at the end of April? We're just trying to figure out our budget. Once we get enough info, I guess we should find a travel agent. Thanks everyone!

www.itravel2000.com popped in departing YYZ Apr 26, POP 1 week all inclusive, and got prices from $869 - $1029, plus another couple of pages of vacations I didn't look at...

Casa Marina Beach/Reef - is only a 3.5* (we stayed there - and were quite happy for two weeks - great beach, major flake vacation with a jeep tour to break up the *monotony* haha, of the beach) Paid about $100 for the jeep tour US, booked and pd locally...

ask around for a travel agent that someone could recommend...if you're not happy with their service, don't be afraid to go to elsewhere:D

Any ?'s feel free to pm..!!:D

I'm not a travel agent...officially, anyway!!:D

My neice announced the other day that she and SO are thinking of being married in Italy...first thought that popped into my head was"oh, good, we'll use Sandcastle Club at YBC for babysitting for the kids during the reception..."

Oh, you mean the REAL Italy!!!:D

It was one of those Disney Days!!:sunny:

Last year we booked last minute (8 days before) and paid $1600 for both of us for one week with everything included. We stayed at a Riu hotel (they are all over the Carribean) very nice. I think it was 5*. Regular price was about $1200/person per week.:sunny:
