For whatever reason, really hot (enough to drink) tea with honey and lemon makes me stop coughing. I drink it right before bed IN bed, so I can just pass out. (It's best after a really hot shower!)

I had the worst cough when I was pregnant with my last DD. It just wouldn't go away. I couldn't sleep and started I couldn't hold food down I was coughing so hard. If it persists, or gets worse, there is some kind of cough med. docs can prescribe that will work that is safe. (Can't remember what it was.)

Otherwise, tea, tea, tea (herbal) with lemon!

I got mucinex prescribed when I had bronchitis last month. Man, coughing REALLY sucks when you already have bladder control issues, doesn't it? Also, I was told I could use vicks if it would make me feel better, and to use a humidfier

When I get a bad cough that won't quit (especially when I go to bed), I get a cup full of ice chips and put it on the night stand next to my bed. Then I suck on a large ice chip and try to get it as far back in my throat as I can and let it sit there and melt. The ice numbs my throat and stops the coughing for a few minutes which sometimes is all I need to fall asleep. If the urge to cough comes back and I'm still awake, I repeat the process. It really does help. You just have to make sure you get the ice chip back far enough and let it sit there. You'll feel the urge to swallow, but keep it there as long as you can before swallowing.
