Anyone heard of it?

Any experience with it?

I think that I have Costcohondritis-- isn't that overwhelming urges to buy way more stuff at Costco than you have room for in your freezer and pantry?

:teeth: Yep, never heard of them.

You know, only you would see that!!!:rotfl2:

I was diagnosed with Tietze syndrome several years ago after several months of chest pain. ECG's, xrays, scans of all sorts determined it was not a heart problem. My doc pressed on my sternum and elicited intense pain in my chest which is how he finally diagnosed me.

There's a message board called healthboards.com You can find virtually anything there. I searched for tietze and here's what came up.

I guess I should have added that I have had bouts of this before (so I was told). I don't remember much about it hence the reason I question the diagnosis.

I know that everything I seem to find has it somehow tied to fibro...so it doesn't surprise me that you might have had it...and I would imagine if there are enough other areas with pain, you might not necessarily notice just this one, you know?

Did you notice any swelling anywhere? Some of the information I'm finding says that's the difference between the costochondritis and Tietze syndrome.

How long did it last? What helped ease your pain?

bump for the morning crowd...

Costochondritis is the inflammation of the cartilage between your ribs. The Tietze Syndrome I had to look up on WebMd it along the same line. When I did a search on Tietze Syndrome it came up with

Hope this helps.

I was diagnosed with Costocondritis while I pregnant. I had such intense pain in my chest I thought I was having a heart attack. I wasn't even 30 at the time. When I went to the ER, they told me to relax that if I were having a heart attack I would feel it throughout my entire chest and not just in one location. Of course, because I was 7 months pregnant they couldn't do a CT scan or MRI at the time. I have since discovered a mass growing in my chest. Thankfully it is not cancerous, but could possibly cause the chest pain I experience if it pressing on a nerve. I will be having surgery to have the mass removed and I am hoping that the pain I sometimes feel in my chest will go away and I will not be dealing with costocondritis again! I am very nervous about the surgery since it involves opening my chest up, but in the long run surgery is the best solution.

I've had costochrondritis and it's very painful. Until I saw the doctor, it was in the back of my mind that I could be having a heart attack because it is chest pain, though my pain was centralized on my right side.

I had an x-ray to rule out a cracked/broken rib, and then I was diagnosed with costochrondrisis. The doctor gave me some pain pills, and eventually I felt better. The pain lasted for days, though. I wasn't able to lay down to sleep for several nights because getting into a sleep position hurt too much.

I hope I never get it again.

WOW! :scared1: Are you stalking me???? ;)

I left work on this past Tuesday afternoon in an ambulance; spent 4hrs in A&E Dept; diagnosed with Costochondritis!

I knew that I hadn't been feeling quite "right" the past few days - really tired and a bit achy... Was just sitting at my desk writing an email and got this amazing pain in the middle of my chest. Of course, I thought I was having a heart attack and my workmates were pretty concerned too...

So, 5 days later and I'm due to go back to work tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to that because I wake up every morning very achy because of the pressure on my sternum from lying down on my ribs... I'm not as tired now though... I'm a bit concerned because when I googled this it said that it can take several months to get better...

Anyway, that's my experience! I couldn't believe it when I saw this thread title on the front page... If you've got it (you didn't say) I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!!!

megthewonderful good luck with the surgery! I know you are scared, but I'm sure it will be fine!

Pixiedust34 I'm glad you are doing better!

TrixieBel...first of all, congrats on your upcoming anniversary! And I'm sorry that you are going through this right now. Yeah, the information I read said it could last for a long time...and that's really scary! I hope you get some relief soon and that it goes away sooner than expected.

My doctor mentioned this as a possibility to explain some chest pain I've been having off and on for about a week now. I do have some other medical conditions that could be contributing factors and we're still not sure. I have a stress test scheduled for tomorrow morning.

I really appreciate everyone's input! My pain isn't constant so that kinda makes me think this isn't it. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.

I have costochondritis as well! I posted a similar thread about 2 months ago or so. I have taken myself to the ER a few times for bad chest pains, I really thought I was having a heart attack! They did all the tests and kept saying there was nothing wrong with my heart. My regular dr. finally diagnosed me and it's been such a relief!

He gave me relafen, which does help. I stopped taking it though because it rips my stomach up. He said that costchondritis isn't harmful, it'll just hurt.
