I have switched to using a Costco Shop card (Gift card). No need to do anything other than just insert the shop card in the CC slot. No Costco membership card required.

So you just swipe the Shop Card first thing? I am definitely going to try that at my Costco. It would be much easier.

Never had a Costco membership. We've always done SAMs club. Everybody says Costco is better. The only reason we have the SAMs membership is there's never been a Costco close to us.

Others may disagree, but we find that Costco is generally better for non-food items, whereas Sam's has more of the foods we prefer (there are some exceptions, of course.) Costco used to be a bit of a drive for us, but a new one just opened near my office.

However, the real reason we have a Costco membership is for car rentals. It used to be a huge bargain, and now not as much, but in today's rental car market it's the only open site that now comes close to corporate rates for rental cars. If you rent a car 2X a year, the standard membership more than pays for itself.

Exactly how would they 'ban' you from entering the store when no one at any Walmart I have ever shopped at looks at your ID when entering? They have eliminated those 'greeter' people at the entrance but they never ask to look at anyone's ID as far as I know. If you use self-checkout and pay cash, they wouldn't even know who you are.

If you receive a trespass notices banning you from a location, You are correct that they do not check your ID when you walk in. But if by some happenstance they do discover who you are and that you are on the banned list, you could be charged criminally with trespassing. This actually happens quite frequently with known shoplifters. They get caught shoplifintg again and tresspass gets tacked on.

There a local supermarket near me that has armed security guards. Not sure exactly what's that important that they would have armed guards other than maybe the pharmacy or the in-store bank branch. But I've been there when I saw police outside with someone looking like a repeat offender being told that "You can't be here."
