Happy New Year everyone. If I use costco travel to book an alamo car is it easy to cancel. also can you still skip the counter if renting through costco. TIA

Yes, easy to cancel and yes you can skip the counter. I use Costco all the time and find my best prices with them.

I have used Costco several times but just recently used Autoslash and the rental was $396 for a midsize suv for 2 weeks compared to Costco which was over $900 and got best price with Alamo. I was able to take the reservation number from Autoslash and go to the Alamo website and skip the counter going straight to vehicle in Tampa saving time.

As mentioned, yes to both questions. Be aware that you will have two confirmation numbers - the one from Costco and the actual Alamo confirmation number.

If you need to cancel, you have to do that through Costco using their number.

The confirmation email from Costco will also have the Alamo confirmation number listed, and you can use that to lookup the reservation in Alamo's system (signup for their Insider program if you aren't already a member). Once you have the reservation up in Alamo's system you can do the online checkin (including the second driver that you get free with Costco) and bypass the counter. You won't be allowed to change the actual reservation through Alamo - you have to go through Costco for that - but you can do the checkin.

Yes, I do all this too, using Costco Travel to book and cancel, and Alamo's site to get the online checkin all set up. Very easy! I have best price now at Budget, hoping Alamo drops to the same price, trip in 2 weeks.
