Cost of regular taxi versus a "taxi van"

My family will be traveling to AKL for 10 nights in June. Due to a bad accident last year my father is unable to sit and/or stand for long periods of time and I am concerned about the bus service to this resort as we stayed here last year and it was awful. (I am not looking to debate the idea of whether or not we should go to Disney. It is a personal family decision and I ask you to respect that.)

What I am wondering about is the cost of a taxi van versus the cost of a regular cab. Last year we took a cab several times just to escape the bus "mess". I believe we paid about $25.00 from AKL to the Contemporary. This year there will be 6 of us so we wouldn't fit in a traditional car. Does anyone know if a van costs more than a car? Also, does my son have to be in a car seat while we are on Disney property? (He is 4 years old.)

We are looking into a car rental but would need to rent a minivan to fit all of us and a car seat. The cost seems so high that it may be easier to just call a cab when necessary.

Thank you!!

Same price.
Probably, on the car seat.
There's an entire Transportation Forum here on the DIS

The price is exactly the same.

Yes, your son needs to be in a car seat or booster.

Many taxis carry car seats, but at 4 your son is old enough under FL law to use a booster seat, so you might want to pick up a BubbleBum inflatable booster seat and carry it with you or store it in a locker at the parks.

You could also try using UberXL or Lyft Plus, which carry 6 passengers, using your BubbleBum. Unlike the taxi vans UberXL & Lyft Plus do cost more (about double) than the 4-passenger services, but still less than a taxi.

Also, does my son have to be in a car seat while we are on Disney property? (He is 4 years old.)

Yes he does.

But even if he doesn't (or thinking about the 4 year old in a booster concept), would you want him to NOT be in a carseat? Speed limits around WDW are in the 45-50 range. They are big broad highway-like roads with big highway-like exits and cloverleaf ramps. Most of the drivers are from out of town, out of state, and out of country. This is NOT a place where you want a kid not in a carseat, when in a car. (when on Disney bus transportation you just deal with the fact that they aren't in seats, and trust in the way buses are designed) And it's not a place I would want a 4 year old to be in a bubble bum, either, because those are merely designed to get a child up so the seatbelt fits them. With a 4 year old that's really unlikely. And if the 4 year old might get sleepy or slouchy, then they are in even more danger if you're in an accident.

Can the family talk about splitting up, with some of the family taking disney transportation and others driving?
