I am confused by the video we recieved and some posts. Is the dinner at Palo included, but you need to make reservations and pay for drinks and extra tip or do you pay for everything? :confused3

Dinner is a surcharge of $10.00 per person plus tip and alcohol. It is well worth the extra money, for the great food and atmosphere!

There is also a Champagne Brunch (done on the days at sea) which are also $10.00 per person plus tip.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

How is tipping handled in Palo? Do you sign a slip at the end of the meal or hand them their tip then since they aren't part of the end of the trip tip?

They will bring you the check for $20.00, just like in a regular restaurant, and then add the tip.

However, we have learned that the server does not get all of the tip. So, I think next time, we will do a small amount on the bill and then slip him/her the rest of what we decide to tip.

Now I understood that the surcharge didn't go to the server entirely, but they have to share their tips too? That just isn't right. :frown:

I have been told by several crew members that the surcharge is split amongst the waitstaff, bus staff, and host staff at Palo, but that anything extra you add goes directly to the person who served you. This is also the case at the bars, the auto-gratuity is divided amongst all of the bartenders and servers, but anything you add to it above that goes directly to that server.

Thanks for the info. How much is a reasonable tip for High Tea? Brunch?
We usually give an extra $10 per person for the gratuity for brunch. Some people here will say that we are cheep and others will go "wow thats a lot".

Don't know about tea - never been. :confused3

Tea is a much smaller deal. It is the same thing that they bring you the ticket at the end for $5 per person. I added another $5, which was probably over-doing it.

The service at Palo for dinner is spectacular. Yes, the $10 charge is split among the staff, but I believe anything you add goes to your server. The food is free at Palo. You pay for alcohol (15% standard tip added), and any extra tip you choose. You will probably want to add to the tip for dinner....there are several long threads on this subject.

The $10 or $5 charge per person in Palo is NOT the server's tip: they get 40cents out of that charge.
