Cost of Cabs in GC & Time of Arrival in Port

I know I have seen this before, but could someone remind me of the approximate cost of a cab from the port to the hotel area on 7 Mile Beach (specifically the Westin)? I just saw that I can rent a car for the day for about $30 and am wondering if it is cost effective compared to using cabs to get around.

Also, we are confirmed on a catamaran trip that leaves there at 9:00 am. I am suddenly worried about making it. Can someone please reassure me?

Sounds like $30 for the day is a pretty good price. I'd go with that option. I'm not sure how much the taxis cost. Their fares <b><i>are</i></b> regulated, so there should be no haggling involved. I <i><b>did</b></i> find a web site that described the taxi fares as "comparatively expensive to the other islands".

There is a third option... Grand Cayman has a mini-bus service that provides frequent service in the more heavily-trafficed areas. Fares are typically between 1 and 2 Cayman dollars.

(U.S. Dollars are readily accepted in Grand Cayman at the rate of 1.25 U.S. Dollars = 1.00 Cayman Dollar.)

It has been a very long time, but if i remember right, cab fare to seven mile was 4 bucks...

Any thoughts on my timing?

My docs say we get into port at 7 am so we should be ok. Any thoughts to the contrary?
