Touring Plans website notes that Cosmic Rays has a Family meal - whole chicken with large mashed potatoes for $15.99 but All Ears does not have it on the menu? Does this still exist? Is this one of those - not on the menu but you can still order - item?

I haven't heard of that...but I have heard of the picnic in the park at AK. It's a neat little family meal with sides...etc.

As mentioned, they are not family meals. They are individual combo platters with large sized portions that could feed multiple people in a family.

It depends upon how much your family eats - the veggies and potatoes are small, and you will have difficulty feeding an entire family with them. The ribs/chicken is a good size, but again, I can't imagine feeding an entire family of say 2 adults and 2 kids on one platter.

Tiger :)

Here is the post I saw in Touring plans:

If you are looking for heart-healthy meals, Pecos Bill's Café has a great chicken wrap. Pecos Bill's also has a pretty tasty hamburger with an outstanding fixin's bar (grilled onions and mushrooms, hot cheese and chili) for those not looking for a heart-healthy menu. At Cosmic Ray's], we had the "Family Meal" of a whole chicken and a generous serving of mashed potatoes for $15.99; with drinks the total was $21.00!! It was great, plus entertaining for the kids.

I understand splitting the 1/2 chicken with mashed potatoes for $9.49 but this post refers to a whole chicken, plus potatoes for 15.99. So I thought I might ask if anyone else has tried this. I know Disney will let you order a singer cheeseburger even though it is not on the stated menu. I thought maybe this deal might be there as well. I guess I can try in July as see.

I can see how that would be misleading - family meal is in quotes, so it's not an actual menu item they are referring to, but their own review of a large meal. It is also not 15.99, but 13.99, it comes with veggies (not mentioned in review), and it is also not a whole chicken, but a half chicken. They are not huge chickens either, so again, it would be difficult based on the size of chicken, and the smaller sides to feed 4 people. It is a large platter, no doubt about that, but feeding a family will be difficult, IMHO.

I find that most guide books are incorrect or overblown in some areas - unless there is some hidden meal that no one knows about, except the Touring Plans people (I highly doubt that!), the meal they are most likely referring to is the regular combo platter.

Happy eating, Tiger :)
