We were booked for Pop in September, but rebooked this morning with the Disney Visa Free Dining. Now we're staying at CSR!! :goodvibes

We are so excited! We stayed at CSR in 2010 and loved it!! We requested Ranchos or Cabanas, not the most popular choices but we like the theme there and we like being close to the Dig Site.

200 days until checking into Coronado Springs!! :woohoo:

Congrats! Wish we could go during free dining. The cabanas are a popular choice, but the ranchos are not as much. We love going in September!

Well tomorrow morning is the big day!!! This time tomorrow we should be just about arriving at CSR!! Excited to check it out for this first time. We requested Cabanas so we will see if we get it. Supposed to be 87 in orlando tomorrow. :thumbsup2

Have a great time! Please come back and post a review!

I had a booking at Pop, but just switched it today to CSR with the free dining. We've never stayed at CSR before. I booked a preferred room, which I understand now means Casitas 1-3. I have a son who'll be 10 when we go. Do you think I might be better off seeing if I can change to a standard room and requesting something in Cabanas so we can be closer to the Dig Site? How long a walk is it from the preferred rooms to the Dig site?
Thanks. :)

It is less than ten minutes from the preferred rooms to the Dig Site, but they are farthest from the Dig Site if that is what is important to you. Benefits of the preferred rooms are proximity to El Centro and to the casitas bus stop, which is the first stop picked up and dropped off when going to and from the parks.

If being close to the Dig Site is more important, the other areas are closer. My kids are 12 and 9, and we prefer the cabanas. But we would be happy in the casitas - we just spend more time at the Dig Site than we do at El Centro.

I'm not sure what to do now. I like the idea of being close to El Centro and being on the first stop with the buses, but I'm sure my son would be happier being closer to the Dig site. If I switched to standard, do you think the request for Cabanas would be honored? Ugh, this is a tough one. Although I'm sure we'll be very happy wherever we are. I can't wait to try out CSR! :goodvibes

I just switched from Pop, too. We stayed at CSR in 2010 and loved it! I think you'd be fine at the preferred rooms. It's not too far a walk to the pool, plus it's a pretty walk.

We have a standard room. I requested Cabanas or Ranchos. I like the theme of those sections, and we don't mind being not close to El Centro.

Let me say first that I have never stayed at CSR. But our family is staying there this summer and I chose the preferred rooms. I wanted to be close to El Centro because my mother (who is 68) while vibrant and mobile - she likes to be close to the breakfast area. Since morning time is crunch time for us, we wanted to be near El Centro so certain folks could get and bring back breakfast to the rooms quickly. My brother also wanted to work out in the mornings and the health club is close by there.

And while I do love being close to the main pool, I also figure that if we are going to the main pool, it will be an event...and at a 'down' time. So walking 10 minutes won't be a big deal. And we would be taking all of our stuff anyway to a big pool so whether it is close or not doesn't matter - I wouldn't be going back and forth to the room during pool time. We also really like quiet pools and they seem to have them in all the areas so no worries there!

Unless your 10 year old has mobility issues, it probably doesn't make that much difference. It's not that long of a trek, and the walk is nice with plenty of things to look at. My younger DD (now 9, but started at CSR when she was 6) skipped along the entire resort several times after being in the parks all day - she loved to look at the turtles and bunnies and search for the alligator in the lake.

There is a quiet pool in the casitas (and the other sections as well), but I'm betting your DS is going to want to be on the slide at the Dig Site. ;)

The cabanas are very popular with families, so honoring your request depends how full the resort is on your check-in day. We always request cabanas with the kids and were placed in casita 2 once, but we switched at check in to cabana 9A.

The closest buildings to the Dig Site are cabana 8A (our favorite), cabana 8B, and rancho 7B. You could either request cabanas, which puts you in between El Centro and the Dig Site, or just request "close to Dig Site".

We don't pay for preferred rooms at CSR since our personal preferred location is not where the preferred rooms are.

Non-preferred rooms are casitas 4 and 5 (still close to El Centro, 5-7 minutes to Dig Site), all of the cabanas (between Dig Site and El Centro), and the Ranchos (very close to reasonably close to Dig Site depending on building, but can be a LONG walk to El Centro). If you end up in Ranchos 6A, you'll have a 10-15 minute walk to the main building, although you could hop on any park bus and ride it around. Downtown Disney buses start at El Centro and pick up the cabanas last, so don't try that with a DTD bus. ;)

how bad is breakfast buffet at the Pepper Market, it seems reviews are really negative even though it would only cost us one quick service credit for breakfast.

I was just hoping to have a pretty big meal of fruit, maybe some egss and a pastry or waffle which would fill us up enough to keep us going for a while.

We found it just fine. We were in a rush that am and did not eat a huge amount but it was there for the asking. The fruit bar was very nice. All the basic breakfast foods including mickey waffles and lots of pastries and such.

what type of coffee maker do they have in the room? I am wondering if I need to order coffee from GG or if they use pods.

Just want to be sure that you are aware that Pepper Market is now a buffet (breakfast and lunch) and no food can be taken out of there. There is another small CS (i can not remember the name), but hot foods are very limited. They do have a lot of muffins and fruit and that sort of thing if that works for you.

It's less his mobility I'm concerned about and more about me schvitzing in the walk back and forth to the Dig Site in the August heat, lol. Actually it may be better that way than having a long walk to El Centro. At least if we're going to the Dig Site, we can cool off in the pool when we get there, and walking back maybe our wet swimsuits will keep us a little cooler on the walk back.

I told my DS that we're going to stay in CSR this time and he shouted "AWESOME" at the top of his lungs. :goodvibes

We love Casitas. Our thinking is this. When we are headed to the parks or to eat at pepper market or to fill our mugs we are on a mission to get somewhere in a timely fashion. If we are just wanting to hang out and swim or let the kid play at the dig site, we are much less rushed and time is not near as much an issue. We really don't mind the beautiful walk over to the pool. HOWEVER when I am wanting to get up in the am, fill, my mug, and get to the bus stop, I am on a mission and want to get there quickly!

Two questions!

Has anyone ordered a cake at CSR? It will be my best friends birthday while we are there. I am not looking for anything big, maybe even two cupcakes. Trying to decide if I should order from CSR or call Kouzzina in advance because that is where we are eating on the night of his birthday.

Does anyone have any experience with the La Vida and the massages offered? We are 21 days out. Has it ever been booked when you tried to make reservations? I can fit it into our schedule on 3/24 which is a Saturday. I'm pretty sure CSR is almost fully booked.

Thank you! :goodvibes

Have not ordered a cake at CSR - have you checked the cake thread on the restaurants board? I wonder if you could get the Boardwalk Bakery to deliver to Kouzzina? I know they do the mini cakes - there are lots of pictures on the cake thread.

I know Kathy (KatMark) gets a massage just about every trip to CSR and has posted that she really enjoys them. I don't know how early she books, though. Maybe she will pop in here with the answer - I'll see if I can find something in her old posts.
