My Dh and I want to spend an evening alone when we chuck the dd's into supervised play time :cool1: and we're trying to chose between these two. I know there are others that are better than this (Ohana and Jiko) but we can't get a rez. So, it's down to these. Can I get some opinions? Thanks!

Coral Reef for us. We have been to both more than once, and Coral Reef has been consistently very good with both food and service, while San Angel was hit or miss - excellent once, so-so the next two times. Seating in San Angel is also a little tight. If you choose San Angel, the dinner menu is a bit more varied and extensive. As for Coral Reef, keep in mind that if you are seated up against the glass you should expect to have visitors squeezing between your table and the adjacent one to get right up to the aquarium.

We have been to both and I have to go with San Angel Inn...it was alot quieter, the mood was more romantic and DH loved the food more than at CR

Another place I would try and get into first is Flying Fish...that place was to die for

You might look into Bistro de Paris, which is upstairs from Chefs de France. A very big plus is that they do not have a children's menu and it is very rare to see small children in that restaurant. I'm not sure, but I think Bistro will only take reservations 30 days out and I know it is not on DDP (but they do take the TiW/DDE Card).

San Angel is loud, crowded, with average food--combined with slow/poor service. The tables are right on top of each other. It's to be avoided at all costs.
Coral Reef is better--can't help with Teppan Edo.

Neither are favorites to be honest...but if I had to choose, I would go with San Angel. We had a horrible experience at CR, and it was SO loud that I would think it would ruin any kind of romantic mood. San Angel is, at least dimly lit, kind of romantic....I think that the atmosphere lends itself to a more quiet meal. The food won't knock your socks off, but maybe the margaritas will! ;)

actually, i think i may go with Teppan Edo. we love japanese. yummmmm

We loved Teppan Edo but it is NOT very romantic....very loud and you will be sitting with 6 strangers...can be fun but nothing romantic there......

I have not been to Coral Reef but found San Angel to be very romantic, very dark and great scenery. \we were lucky I guess 'cause we enjoyed our food very much and our server was excellent.....

If you pick a early dinner as in when it first opens you will luck out and get near the water...and you can't tell what time it is anyway...cause it is already dark in there!

They close on May 10 for rehab, hence why we won't be dining there on our trip.

We ate at both on our last trip and I wouldn't choose either. Coral reef was loud with lots of kids and the waits were unbelievable. Probably will never go there again. We also thought San Angel was loud and very crowded. The food was fine but there are quite a few tables that are no where near the water which is where we ate. I would think a better choice might be a resturant in one of the resorts. i would check that out. Enjoy!

We love Coral Reef, but would definitely do it with your dd. It's my kids' favorite.

NOT San Angel; we've eaten here 3 times because I kept hoping the food would get better since I love the atmosphere. But, the food was horrible all 3 times! Mexican food is one of my favorite choices, so I was really disappointed with the food here!

I was just going to say the same thing. UncleRomulus is right on target here.

Never been to San Angel but heard it's one of the most romantic places in Disney. Were tring this in Aug. Been to Coral Reef. It's nice here. Good food and a nice atmosphere.

Personally, I always had a nice meal at San Angel's; except one time. And that one time almost kept me away!:scared1:

But I see from Deb's board that the menue has been re-vamped so let's keep our fingers crossed!! They have even added a small vegetarian menue.

Does anyone know when it's supposed to re-open??
