WOW!
My daughters history class was studying the Declaration of Independence and the teacher asked the students to write a couple of paragraphs about declaring their independence from some activity or people.
In our numerous trips to Disney, I am constantly lecturing my daughter on proper behavior in a large crowd. Pointing out actions by people that I believe are behaving poorly. For the most part, she ignores both the actions by the people and my comments. After hearing the assignment, she thought about my comments/lectures on the behavior of some Disney people. Her little essay was really directed at me and I found it humorous.
My daughter loves Disney as well as me and it shows. A good parody cannot be written without a thorough appreciation of the work/world being ridiculed. She does not look at Disney through poo covered lenses (as one poster stated); she bounces around the people taking photos, dodges the strollers with ease; and loves our First Day stroll down Main Street. Being 50 years older, I neither bounce nor dodge so she frequently admonishes me for my behavior toward photo takers and strollers. To get back in her good graces, I sometimes have to volunteer to take a photo so the entire family is in the photo.
I posted her writing, without her knowledge, from an email that I believed would be enjoyable to some folks. I thought using the writing style of the Declaration of Independence to ridicule was very clever. That was the reason for the long, complicated words. I would disagree with the comment that the writing was average. She is a TAG student who does exceptionally school work in all honors classes especially writing.
I posted the writing for people to have a little laugh but it seems the opposite occurred. My daughter and I were accused of being rude, self-righteous, being insensitive to children, lacking basic childrearing, emulating the Declaration poorly, pretentious and self-centered, we dont like Disney, using big words and complex sentences, having a cynical outlook, and being miserable. In the future, I will not make you go through this ordeal again and have you waste your precious time.
I would like to thank all of the posters who enjoyed the writing and my apology to you for not formatting it correctly. I noticed that many of the positive comments were made by relatively new members (small number of posts) and I hope that you continue to be a positive influence on The DIS. However, remember that old adage, it is difficult to soar like an eagle when you are flying with turkeys.
For the other posters, as stated by luvthemouse71 that if you post an opinion on this forum everyone has a right to comment, critique, etc. I would recommend reading Voltaires Candide and Goodnight Bush: A Parody. While it may not help in improving your critizing skills, I believe this would aid in improving your editing skills. Without quality critiquing, you might be accused of being nothing more than a veritable nest of uncharitable nitpickers.
