COP confusion...?

I was just reading a thread about the COP and how many people, like my family, absolutely love it and don't want to see it go. However, there are a few things that have always confused me about it.

The show is supposed to follow a typical American family through the decades, but there are some inconsistencies.

In the first scene (I think, it might be the second) there are 3 kids in the family, but in the rest there are only 2.

By the final scene, the parents would have to be about 100 years old and the grandparents, even older. I thought maybe the parents were supposed to be the son grown up with his family and the original 'parents' were now the 'grandparents,' but they all have the same names still.

The kids don't age more than maybe 10 years throughout the whole thing.

So what are the years? I know the first scene says that's it is right after the turn of the century, so I'm thinking maybe 1910? The final scene looks like maybe it's about 1990? 1980? Even so, that's a span of 70-80 years that have gone by. I know I'm reading into it too much ;) but it just always bothered me. I think they should have the kids' families in the later scenes to make it more realistic. And don't even get me started on how old Rover would be ;) hahaha....

Am I missing something? If you know the answer to this mystery, please help me, I can't sleep at night :)

No matter what, please don't take away my COP! We love it.

I believe that each scene shows the next generation. The oldest generation from the previous scene has died and the kids have grown up and had kids of their own. To make it obvious that it is the same family they retain much more of a family resemblence from generation to generation then you would normally see in real life.

SRUAlmn - Yes you are reading too much into it. It's the magic of Disney!! Heck everytime I go to Disney I am 10 years old all over again which isn't too far from my age - I am actually 10 years and 482 months old (had to use the calculator). In any event, I agree that they shouldn't take COP away.

For your sleeping problem, have a glass of wine at night.

:o :o :o
