My son's - friends - mom, apparently used to date a SOX player ( a verrrry good White Sox player too!!!! ) when he was in the minor leagues. He used to babysit for her son, even after they had stopped dating!

Anyways - she had tried to get tickets to the Sox World Series, with no luck... so she thought "I'll call (that man I used to date)"

And she did - and he got her some dooozey of World Series tickets! I couldnt be more jealous!!!! :earseek:

So, I thought - at what point could *I* call someone, for something??? I couldnt!!! I know - NO ONE!!

WHo do you guys "know" ????

I know an Atlanta Falcon football player. We still exchange Christmas cards and such. This player used to be here in my area but moved out of town.

Every once in a while someone who is over recognizes his name/picture. (His Christmas card from last year as well as others are on our fridge) THen they say, How do you know this person?

We knew him when he was in college. He lived in the same apt. complex as we did.

I would never dream of calling him up and asking for a favor though. Even when he was a local player, we sort of left him alone about his "job". To us, he's just so and so from the old neighborhood. Oh, yeah, he does play in the NFL too. It is odd though to play an Xbox game and see his name though.. thats funny.

My father has been involved in high school and college basketball for nearly 50 years, and has developed some friendly relationships with college coaches. We've always been able to get Final Four tickets when we requested them. Not a big deal, but fun if you're an NCAA fan.

My dad also 'knows someone who knows George Steinbrenner', so we can usually round up some Yankee tickets. Not for any Series play, though--my dad obviously doesn't know someone who knows Steinbrenner well enough! :)

I did know a guy who worked security at a local concert venue. He got me backstage at a Def Leppard concert once! :drinking: :rolleyes1

Can't say - promised I would never name drop! But it's not anyone that's "super" famous....

I know a lot of influential people in the local area because I work with them on day to day basis. That scored me plenty of complementary tickets to sporting events, concerts, races, plays, shows, etc. My boys always have plenty of promotional merchandise from these events which they often end up sharing with their friends. Couple of years ago when my on of my DS wanted a jersey signed by local hockey team, I pulled a few favor cards and got it for him. However other then that I try to avoid doing that because I hate to feel like I owe anything to them.

My best friend used to go out with a member of the Goo Goo Dolls in high school. ;)

I was involved with a professional baseball player in college.

We were pretty serious, but he had problems keeping his hands to himself when he was on the road. From what I hear, that trend continued until he alienated himself from any woman who wanted more than just money or a status symbol. I ran into him recently in Boston when he was here on some promotional thing. I was minding my own business, walking to Faneuil Hall to go to Crate & Barrel, and there he was. I tried to walk by without making my presence known, but he saw me. He asked if I wanted to have dinner, I said no, he said keep in touch, I said OK (not).

I wouldn't ask him for anything. He'd want something in return and there is no way I'm going there for World Series tickets. :)

I used to know a guy who had a part on "Loving". My dad used to know the dad of Rick Barry (basketball player). DBF met Sebastian Bach. I used to hang out with local amateur wrestler.

Nothing exciting here!

My parent's were legal witnesses so that Tico Tores (bon jovi drummer) parents could become legal US citizens. Our families have been friends for many many years.. LONG ago for my sweet 16 birtday, they played at my party and I was the envy of ALL my school mates!! And anytime they came back home to NJ, my brother and I had tickets if we wanted to go see them.. :goodvibes

My DH's first cousin used to be on All My Children. She's a real pain in the butt though and I wouldn't call her a friend.

I had a friend who dated Zack Wyld (sp) from Ozzy.... We went to Monsters of Rock concerts and showed off our BackStage Passes.. :teeth:

I partied with Sabastian Boch (sp) and the band of Skid Row before they were really famous.. I have pictures too (somewhere) :p This was at a club in Asbury Park,NJ called Fast Lanes...

I met Bruce Springstein (sp) several times through a friend of my dad's... He would attend the same family/friends BBQ's and Parties... And seen him play at the Stone Pony... :goodvibes

wow I sound like a groupie !! :rotfl2:

...funniest thing... I never really liked many of the musicians I have met or hung out with or talked to.. :earseek: well once fame changed their attitudes...
and to think Sabastain was a star on Gilmore Girls in a garage band with Lain... :rotfl2:

I have to know... who?!?!?!

I'll have to get back to you. I never watched the show, but she played a nun it was the 70's. My sister-in-law was President of her fan club at the time. I can't remember her stage name but the first name was the same as her own, Cathy.

Oops, maybe it was Days of our Lives.

OK, it was One Life to Live and she played a nun named Jenny. Catherine Glass was her stage name.

In high school I dated Tito Puente's son.

pfishgirl - I am soooooooooo jealous. Bon Jovi is my all time favorite band.

pfishgirl, can I be your new best friend??? ;)

Bon Jovi at your Sweet 16...O...M...G...

Willow Bay's parents were to be DH's guardians if anything happened to his mom when he was growing up. Kind of a good contact to have if you are into Disney. ;)

My sister is good friends with a woman whose brother is in Kenny Chesney's band. My sister had worked with this girl for several years, and she just happened to mention in passing one day that I was bummed because there was a teacher's conference the weekend of Chesney's local concert, so we wouldn't be able to catch the show. Sister's friend said "call your sister and tell her to just wait until they come to DFW and my brother will hook us up. He's with the band." We assumed that her brother was a roadie of some sort. We got great seats for the show and met sister's friend's family sidestage before the opening act. When we got ready to head to our seats, friend's brother asked if we wanted anything autographed by Kenny, so we sent a few things backstage. At this point we're thinking "can't believe that KC has time to do things like this for the roadies." Fast forward to the band introductions and we realize that the brother we'd shared pizza with a few hours earlier, was playing keyboards in the band. Color us clueless. We've attended several shows with the friend's family since then...it's fun to hear them talk about the good old days before KC became a big star. They've got some great stories to share.
