Yes, he was the purple blob guy. And no, they aren't around any more, except Ronald. They retired the whole McDonaldland thing several years ago.

How many people here worked at a McDonalds? I did for about a month when I was in the army - didn't work out very well though. I remember when the first one opened here and the burgers were $0.15. I also remember when you got change back from a dollar for a Big Mac, fries and a drink. They used to advertise that one. I think water costs more than $0.15 now!

Hamburglar was the man. Does anybody remember the scratch off games they used to have I think during the 1976 Olympics? I remember winning a Big Mac and thinking I was rich lol.

Mayor Mcheese was the cool one for me because he was so rare. I can't even remember what he sounded like. I believe when they introduced birdie, that was the demise of the Mcdonals land thing. Although I did like the mcnuggets...lol

And was pretty much a B.A.

On the link posted by DaveInTN, you can see an early McDonalds commercial in which Jodie Foster and the Evil Grimace co-star with Ronald.

In the first cycle of McDonaldland commercials beginning in 1971, Grimace was the "Evil Grimace", with two pairs of arms with which to steal milkshakes. After that first campaign, the character was revised to be one of the "good guys", and his number of arms was reduced to two.


I remember the first time I saw the new Grimace.

The poor guy. In addition to removing a set of his arms, I think Ronald gave him a lobotomy, too.

Those were the good old days.

I agree TCD. When evil Grimace became just Grimace, he became a real moron. Although, like I said earlier, I have to respect a guy that lives on milkshakes, apparently doesn't pay for any of them, and is able to redeem himself from a life of crime to being the best friend of the world's most famous, and wealthiest, clown. He's like the best freeloader ever....a giant purple Kato Kaelin.
