it has ridges on the bottom. Reminds me of a grill sort of. It's excellent for hamburgers because it drains the fat.

Now my question is, can I cook a steak on it? Will it come out OK? I've never pan fried a steak. My oven is having... issues. It either will broil (which I *could* do, but I am not totally sure it's getting up to broil temps) or 100F (I wish I knew what the problem was).

Soooo can I use this pan?

TIA

I think your pan sounds like a pan we have! It's a Grill Pan....I use it on the stovetop to cook all kinds of meats. Usually my husband will sear the outside of the steaks in it, and then stick the whole thing in the oven, or put them on the grill outside, but I don't know why you couldn't go ahead and do the cooking on the stove top with it.

I did a quick search in Yahoo on Grill Pans and found this article from the Cincinnati Post that might have some helpful information for you.

Good Luck,

PS: If you oven is having issues, fire up the crock pot, there are always TONS of great crock pot recipes on the DIS...

Wow thanks so much!! Getting too cold to BBQ outside (down into the 20's for a low, 30's for a high) and the stove is having issues. :(

They show a chicken breast or did on the package insert thingy... so I assume they were grilling it ;)

Mucho appreciated!

I use mine a lot. The key things to remember are 1) grease it even for steak and 2) use medium heat.

Thanks for the heads up! What do you grease it with say for steak?? Just cooking oil?

I spray it with Pam. But when I cook steak, I coat it first with olive oil also. I just like the nice crust it gets that way.

Also, one important tip, make sure the meat is at room temp when you cook it otherwise it takes too long and you'll smoke up the whole house! I learned this one the hard way...

Really room temp huh? I wonder how long it takes to go to room temp... I haven't boughten the meat yet... I was going to go tonight after work.

Pam and Olive oil. I think I need to get olive oil... hmmmm... thanks! I am so glad you guys told me to use some kind of oil before hand. I wouldn't have done it.
