An old tip I learned from my mom.

If you have cookies that may be a bit too crispy or even brownies that are dry....as my family likes soft chewy cookies and brownies.....an awesome fix is to put cookies in air tight container with a slice of fresh bread. Within hours the moisture is drawn from bread and restoring cookies to their awesome freshness.

Thanks mom for the old tip......used many, many, many times over the years.

I have never tried that for cookies that are already hard. I just threw some out yesterday! Oh well. I do add a slice of bread when packing them for trips overseas to my Brother who was serving and to my Son when he was in college on the East Coast. They both said that it worked nicely. Though they both wanted to know what the slice was for.:rotfl2:

Oh yes, DH thought I was nuts when I first taught him the "trick".

Now all 5 of my kiddos know and share with others......keeping treats soft & chewy one cookie at a time....LOL!!!:rotfl2:

Ooh! Another good tip from the budget board!! (because I ALWAYS over-bake.)

If the bread trick doesn't work, you can always crumble them up and serve as ice cream topping, or soak hard cookies in milk and eat with a fork or spoon. Cookies never get thrown out here. The occasional vegetable is added to the compost heap but cookies are never thrown out. DH will eat any mistakes.

There was the time the butter-flavored Crisco cookies did not taste quite right. He took them to work in his lunch anyway and shared with the other guys. :confused3 Those cookies are the stuff of legend.

You can also use a slice of bread to keep brown sugar from going hard. Strangely enough, the bread doesn't go mouldy either.

Yup, I do this all the time. You can do this with brown sugar too. An apple also work with both cookies and brown sugar and the apple flavor does not bleed into the cookies or brown sugar. :)
