Convince me to convince my husband not to cancel our 3 day stay at Vero Beach

Now, I have to ask those of you that do this......do you fly into MCO and rent a car for the drive to VB? About how long is the drive?

That's what we did....got adventurous and drove to Vero via A1A along the coast and back on I-95. Coming back took about 2 hours or so. Going down probably 2.5 to 3, but we weren't in any rush and wanted to explore a little off the beaten track.

Last time we went from WDW to VB it took a little under 2 hours.

We took 192 to 95 and then 95 to somewhere around Sebastian.

I really liked this route.

Great job everyone!!! You definately convinced me to convince my DH and DD so off to Vero we go for 3 days 2 nights after a week at the Yacht Club in Disney.
I have a Ocean View Inn room so hopefully this will be enjoyable.
My DH and DD need to be on the go at all times so I am just praying that there is enough things for them to do when I get there.
The only thing that worries us is the sign to the beach that states

PORTUGUESE MANOWAR and SHARK in water :earseek:

Maybe will will stay in the pool.:sunny:

I will post when we return to let everyone know how we liked it and how we did or shall I say what we did.

We also rented a car so hopefully driving to differnet things there will help.

Of course there was the anecdotal story told to us while at Vero about the woman who saw the shark warning sign and became quite upset that Disney wouldn't remove the sharks...

Ocean view Inn rooms are quite nice. Force yourself to get up early and watch the sun rise...well worth the interupted sleep. It was also fun one afternoon sitting on the room balcony watching a thunderstorm blow up over the ocean and counting the fishing boats hauling full throttle back to land.

We had the room with the balcony right next to the outdoor deck of the lounge. One of the servers kept kidding us that we needed a platform to slide drinks over to us.

learned to canoe on the river and scuba dive in the pool.
I learned how to get used to playing a different golf everyday.
DW was glad to get rid of us to chillout.

some of the Ocean View rooms are "sideways" views that is they are on the North or South side of the Inn - try and be on the side facing the Ocean full front being the East side of the Inn

thanks

Could someone please try to explain to me the differences in the various rooms....i.e...Ocean View Inn rooms vs. 1 Bdroom vs. studios?? Thanks.

pmcpmc- They have canoes one can rent??? Did you learn to scuba dive there??? If so where do you sign up for this because this is something we all have been wanting to do.

jaysue- Can one fax the hotel before arrival requested to be full front oceanview or can you tell me how I would go about doing this.

Any info would be greatly appriciated.

canoeing takes place ona local wide river . My daughter had never even been in a canoe before.
Scuba diving they taught in the pool.
all booked onsite.

INTERESTING................ My husband is gonna be psyched. Now I really cant wait. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

PORTUGUESE MANOWAR and SHARK in water

We saw one last time we were there-a Portuguese Manowar, not a shark.

My DS thought it was real interesting and we looked at it for a while. I think my DH buried it because people kept getting close to it.

We also saw a lot of Marlin?? jumping straight up out of the ocean. They were very nice to watch.

:wave2: Hi, Nick & Cindy~ No...but we should be! We pay the regular rate for our Villa @ DVB, and this summer marks our 5th consecutive summmer visiting this remarkable place. I almost forgot to mention the little HALE'S Orange grove stand/store just down the road. They offer fresh fruit and other gift items, plus FREE SAMPLES of delicious Orange/grapefruit juice and sliced fruit. Of course, I prefer our Cali citrus. :sunny:

We also include stops at the PBH (Villa Suite), and last summer we included a drive to Key West for a week, after the Disney WONDER docked (Eastern).

Now...about YOU TWO and YOUR itinerary for 2004!! WOW...the WONDER (We LOVE this ship), AND the BEACH COTTAGE HOUSE?!? Sometime, we plan to reserve this type of accomodation at Vero. They are stunning. My favorite one is down at the end of the row...where you can slip through the bushes and down the steps to the private stretch of beach/ocean. ::yes:: I used to enjoy visiting the Hospitality cottage when it was open for DVC tours, continental breakfast and afternoon apps. (FUN!). I wish I were there in June, I'd be sure to stop by and say "hello" .

Are you DVC members? How long? We took the first tour for the DVC over at WDW Key West. We've just never made the step. We've been thinking of it more seriously lately, and may begin to shop around. Any tips/hints would be welcome and appreciated.
Enjoy your Cruise and summer plans!

Yes we have been DVC members for 5 years. You would be an excellent candidate if you come to Florida every year ::yes:: . I will send you more info via e-mail or PM.

Wow...I thought I was all set with this year's trip - another excursion to Orlando. Suddenly, I'm wondering if we can work in a trip to VB. The photos were great, and the activities sound like so much fun! While I LOVE WDW, the idea of planting ourselves in one spot for a few days sounds wonderful! I may just have to talk to DH about buying more points... :teeth:

Thank you!~I will check my PM box. We had better stop talking about this wonderful place, or word will get out--and we'll have no (Disney) place to summer on the beach while in Florida! (LOL)
The more people hear about this place, the less availability for us!

Just wanted to add a link for some other reviews...great reading~! Everything lends to perspective, and every little bit counts. I nearly forgot about the Boogie boards (rented at the pier, or purchased at Walmart for very little $), and the fabulous campfire w/S'mores, etc. There are SO many little touches about this resort. I would love to read your post/review when you return from DVB.

Enjoy!
