Convince me to convince my husband not to cancel our 3 day stay at Vero Beach

ellieb - I would be upset too if I had paid those prices (or even not!) and had those awful smells. I guess they got their act together right away though, because I checked in on the 14th and got home today, and it was perfect while we were there. We had a fourth floor ocean-view inn room, on the end, so we also had windows facing the pool. Everything was immaculate with no smells (and I have a nose like a beagle). The resort was at 100% capacity while I was there, and it was full of small children and parents in the pool all day. I did not have kids with me, and I had trouble finding a pool chair after 10:00 a.m. each day. I am so sorry for your bad experience, but I am glad you were able to get AKL on short notice!

ellieb,

Sorry to hear about your experience... I stayed at AKL last year with a Savannah view room, and it was awesome! If I would have paid $400, and not have gotten Ocean view, I'd been upset as well...

We have done two add ons at VB and been there three times now, and are heading there again in August...

There are times when the resort is at a pretty low capacity... When my family normally goes in December, the resort is normal only at 20-30%...

I personally think that that is the BEST time to go... The resort tends to be more quiet, pool is always free... Minigolf is never busy, and there are always bikes available to rent... (Plus the wait time for a massage is next to null..)

I wouldn't take the fact that the resort is not at full capacity as a sign of poor quality... VB tends to be one of those little unadvertised hidden jewels of the Disney Collection.. Most people going to WDW don't visit it because 1) They don't know about it, or 2) They don't have a car to drive the distance...

My family actually prefers the laid back atmosphere at Vero over the hustle and bustle of the WDW resorts... Vero is just one of those places where we feel good about just relaxing and taking our time enjoying the day in a hammock...

ellieb - your report was so different than the norm, I just wonder if they had an A/C problem that caused the odor, or did it rain heavily? We were there last August and had a mildew odor, they tried to correct it, but the rain was so constant it was no use, we just kept the A/C on, and sprayed alot of Fabreeze, but we really shouldn't have had to deal with it. I really wish VB would only call the ocean view room the rooms facing the drectly on the ocean, not the two sides. It really isn't fare. but I still love the place and can't wait to go back. We were just there this past February for Presidents Week and it was packed, too crowded, hard to get chairs, pool packed, I wish it was less, my kids love the activities there, the planned ones and the ones they do on there own. They bike ride, walk the trails across the street, play basketball, shuffleboard, mini-golf, walk the beach, etc., etc. If you need planned activities then this probably isn't the place. But I really don't understand your comments not being on the ocean, If they didn't keep adding to the sand dune, the ocean would be in the lobby???
