Convince me it is worth the extra money to stay at the Fort, rather than off-property

I"m gonna camp in my driveway to save a few bucks.... it's almost as nice as Disney, and if I get bored, I can go watch tv in the house. I'll save quite a few bucks there.

Hey Pete - I'm driveway camping tonight, too. See ya there!

Can I come and mooch ? :lmao:

I have found that my wife and me compare evrey camping experence to Fort Wilderness after 4-5 trips to the fort a year. If we talk camping with our friends it comes to the fort. Our moto should be " What Would Fort Wilderness Do???" !!!!!!!!! Yep its that good!

Where is this State Park? I don't know of any that are all that close to WDW. And most of the State Park campgrounds in Florida are more than $20 a night these days.

This is a sincere question. I would really like to know if this State Park exists, as it would be a good option if it is really only $20 per night.

TCD

Lake Louisa is close to WDW on 27 in Clermont. But not close enough that I'd want to drive that far after the a day at the parks or the FW Movie.

It is about $20 a night. http://www.floridastateparks.org/lakelouisa/default.cfm
BUT the sites are unshaded in what is pretty much a parking lot.

We drove in once to look at the sites and immediately drove out.

That campground should be fun with the nice hot Florida sun beating down on the roof on your MH, TT, 5thW. No thanks, I'll stay at The Fort. Also, not into the traffic everyday either. It's supposed to be a vacation.

Aghhhh. Don't get me wrong.. I have been able to find some very helpful information on this board... which is why I keep coming back. I have to admit though... some of the posters are really unwelcoming... it's the same ones everytime. I don't get it... I can't tell if you are joking or serious. It doesn't seem to be this bad on the other forums on this board.. just the FW camping one. It's so frustrating to see a thread with some useful information get turned in to a arguing, bashing, insulting, debating on who's knowledge of FW is bigger than the other. Do you not want new people coming here for info? Maybe you guys are joking and I don't get it. I just ignore and move on usually, but I just wanted to get the low down... just in case I was missing some sort of protocol where I was supposed to insult everyone to get info. Just saying.

Now... go ahead, let the bashing begin.

It is all in good fun. If you get to know the folks on here you will start to understand their quirky sense of humor. It is one of the things that I like about this board. Maybe that is because I am cut from the same cloth.

Now... go ahead, let the fun begin! :thumbsup2

Momofsixinsc-
If you are looking to save money then I think you really will save by staying at fort wilderness camp ground, I know at first look camping outside looks like half the price, but remember you will have to pay for parking, so that $20 a night now becomes $35 a night as parking is $14 each day.
Then you need to add gas, now if you stay on site no parking fee, no gas will be used as you will be at Disney.
Now the biggest saving is the fact that food will be cheaper, as all your meal can be made by you at the camp ground.

So it may look cheaper else where, but in the end I think you can see that staying on site will really save you in the long run.

Your children will enjoy themselves, I know as I have stayed at the cabins at fort wilderness. Like others have told you about the pool, movies, sing along, bring along your fishing poles as you kids will have fun fishing.
You can spend some time walking around boardwalk at night they have entertainment, also downtown Disney.

Don't feel bad that you don't have a tons of money and you need to at least watch how you spend your husband hard earned money, I know how that is, and I'm sure other have done the same as you.

I don't need to convince you, I only need to show you where your money is going, I don't want to see you spend more money and have to travel an hour away, when in the end it only will save you $3 night or cost you more because you will be paying for meals at the park or resort.

Believe me kids don't care what you spend, they only care that they are having fun, and at Disney Fort Wilderness I know they will get what they want. I don't even think they will miss the park, as there is so much to do at the fort.
Every dime you spend will be worth it.

Well, I'd save money driving. We'd eat at home, and we don't need no stinkin tickets.....

I think I found a good campground in Ohio, for $15/night, we'll commute and save all that money.

Convince me to stay at the Ohio campground for 15 bucks a night.

Fort Wilderness is the best! I live an hour from Disney, so I can understand driving an hour to and from for the day/evening and it's no fun to drive home after a day at the park. I am military and in a safety briefing they specifically warned us that driving after a day at an amusement park impairs your reflexes just like drinking because you are fatigued. Would you really want to put your kids in that situation? Convincing enough?

A cut and paste:
Drowsy or fatigued driving is another type of impaired driving. People may underestimate the seriousness of driving tired or sleepy but fatigued driving actually has a lot in common with drunk driving.

ust like drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol, fatigued drivers also:

• Have a slower reaction time
• Have decreased awareness and concentration
• Have impaired judgment

Statistics for fatalities of fatigued driving are not as high as drunk driving. Nevertheless, it merits concern and attention because as many as 1,404 motorists are killed in fatal crashes as they were either drowsy, fell asleep at the wheel, fatigued, or ill while driving.

It is estimated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that fatigued driving causes at least 100,000 automobile crashes and 40,000 injuries annually.

Jumping right in now. Where were you all these past 5 days when you should have convinced me to camp in my own driveway? We were at that stupid FW camping in the rain for $100 a night and walking 2 soggy dogs. I could have saved a ton of money and watched a bigger TV than we have in the RV. Well next vacation I'll know the questions to ask and will look to you all for driveway camping tips. However, my neighborhood is not as nice as FW and if I stay at home DH will find a project to do and that spoils the whole camping thing. Sorry I got side tracked. I'll contact you all in August for convincing. :woohoo: Oh, PS we don't have a pool or a nice slide either. What a dump we live in.
