converting park hopper to cheapest So. Cal. AP

Hi, I live in San Diego and have been a lurker on these boards for a while... great information!! We've done several day trips up to DL, but are doing a 3 day vacation in late June to coincide with my husband and daughter's birthdays... we are staying at the Hojo. We are buying 2 day Parkhoppers for the whole family... we have 3 children. I know we'll want to go back and do some day trips or overnights through the year, so I want to convert my PHs to the cheap So. Cal. AP...

I've converted a one day PH to an AP before and paid the difference... my question is for a 2 day PH to the cheapest So. Cal. pass... The kids PH is a little bit cheaper than the AP, so I would pay the difference, but the adult PH is actually more expensive than the AP, so how does that work if I want to convert? THANKS!!

Welcome!

You might just have to buy the APs themselves instead of the PHs then upgrading (if the dates aren't blocked out) for the adults, because I wouldn't guarantee they'd credit money back to you. You don't get MM with a 2-day PH anyway, so it'd might save you the trouble to just get the PHs for the grown-ups.

Update: Actually, I just checked and those days are blocked out. Keep in mind that a big chunk of the summer is blocked out for the SoCal Select APs. So you will need to purchase PHs for everyone for this trip. If you still want to upgrade to select, the worst thing that can happen is that they simply switch out the PHs for APs and don't give money back to you.

If you look at the "terms and conditions" on the annual pass section of Disneyland.com, it says you cannot upgrade to an annual pass that cost less. I cut and pasted this sentence.

"A guest who chooses to upgrade to an Annual Passport from another form of theme park admission media must choose an Annual Passport of equal or greater value than the original theme park admission media retail price."

Maybe you could upgrade to the so cal ap that cost more. (not select) Or you can just buy annual passes from the beginning if the one you buy is not blocked out when you are going.

You have to buy the next level in So Cal APs for the adults. The upgrade must cost more than the tickets you have on hand.

Thank you! I think I will go ahead and buy the second level of So. Cal APs for myself and my husband... that way, we can take advantage of the discounts on the trip... I'm not sure yet if I'll upgrade the kids to that level or just wait and see... I may just upgrade them to the cheapest and if we decide to go on a black out for that level, deal with that when it happens.

In the future if you do decide to go on a blocked out day...at DLR you can upgrade your AP at any time. There is no pro-rating...you will simply pay the next level up, but they do let you upgrade it.

Or just pay the $40 blockout pass fee...you'll have to do the math and figure out if you'll have another day during the year that you'd want to go but is blocked out for the kidlets.
