Conversion of McDonalds to Pollo Compero at Downtown Disney

I was quite shocked to read this today!
Not that we spend any time in the McD's at DTD but we have popped in for the odd drink or quick bite.
Does anyone know anything about Pollo Compero?
I've been on their website for a look but it doesnt seem very inspiring.
Please - can someone convince me that this is a good move or is it just swapping one fast food franchise for another?
Anyone been to one of these places yet?

Milly

Thanks Tricia.

We are staying at SSR in August so we will have to give this a try.

My daughter loves Chicken Strips so at least we will get her through the front door.:rotfl:

I just hope that they don't load those prices too much because of the cost of being on Disney Property!

I wondered about pricing as well. It's Disney, so it probably will be a little more. The good news is that the menu I found was from Washington DC, so it should already be somewhat inflated.

Oh good - that's a relief. Thanks Tricia.

Does anyone know why Disney has 'ejected' McDonalds from their parks?

They really seem to have fallen out with those guys...!

I know they get some bad press - but hey - it's just fast food and the same as all the other franchises really isnt it?

If it was about that - then surely they should be looking at some 'Healthfull' alternatives?

Dont get me wrong - I love to try new places and we get McD's over here in the UK so I am always keen to go to other franchises when I visit the U.S.

Just curious as to why they are disassociating their name with McD's?

Milly

Is the McDonalds just outside the All Star resorts still there? Or are all of the McDonald's gone?

It's still there. We didn't eat there last week, but DH didn't want to follow my directions & we ended up in that area. He was sure that we could get to CBR by driving through the ASValues, lol.

Thats actually GREAT news!! (I know odd..) But of all the McDonald's i have ever eaten at, this one ha the best food i have ever had at one..

It's "picture perfect" as they say .. and even the kids are looking forward to goign there again.. i guess they add some picie dust to the food there or something.. :rotfl:

I know Pollo Compero is very popular in Guatemala. When we were in the process of adopting our girls, we ate there many times. I still remember the smell as people carried it onto the plane with them to take back to the states. I enjoyed it - think KFC with a good kind of kick.

We just got 2 of these in my area, but I haven't tried yet. It smells ok, I just haven't mustered up the courage. :p

We're going there next week. I heard it was going to be a CS on the QSDP. We will try to check it out and take pictures of what we get while we are there.

The contract expired and Disney didn't renew. This was after Disney stopped promoting its films with McDonald's (and why you see Dreamworks promotions in Happy Meals now).

We love this chicken; it's the best of the franchise fried chicken, I think. The food is cooked in Central American style, so there are some unique side items and drinks.

Perfect description, we have had their food on Long Island NY, was afraid at first that the "kick" would be too spicy but it was very good :thumbsup2

I'm curious to read reviews. It doesn' look very appealing to me either but I'm no fan of KFC and people keep comparing it to that chain. At least it has grilled chicken and a few OK side dishes.

Wow, McD's and Disney must have really had a spat! Which FF chain is involved with Disney now?

Have you ever had Popeye's? In my opinion, the BEST chicken. Two choices - Mild and Spicy.

This was an interesting choice for DTD. I'll be interested to see how it does.
