I'm still a noob when it comes to Disneyland, but I've been reading about everyone using the "Gay Days" convention tickets this October whether they were going or not.

Over on a deals website someone posted a link to another convention (High School reunion) that offers discounted convention tickets.

So my question is, can ANYONE purchase and use these tickets like people were doing for Gay Days? When you buy them are they specially marked? What do y'all think?

Disneyland Convention Tickets

It's a little difficult to tell for that convention/reunion, but I know for a fact that they didn't track the Gay Days tickets at all. Anyone could buy it and use it, so long as you went during their dates.

Really, this looks very much the same.

Gay Days was different, the organizers specifically said anyone can use them. Many times with other conventions they DO verify you are part of it. I saw some people turned away last year for trying to use tickets for a convention they were not part of. All I know is that I would hate to have my tickets confiscated like that. Not worth the chance.

^ How do they verify this? I go to conventions all the time in Anaheim and been offered convention tickets many times. I've never once been asked to prove I was with the convention and I wouldn't know how to prove it other than showing them my convention pass, which I woudn't take with me to DL. I've also purchased tickets for my family and they go for the day and I meet them later. They wouldn't be able to show any kind of convention affiliation.

My DH and I went to a convention last year and we used convention tickets. We never had to verify that we were with the convention when we bought the tickets nor when we used them. I would be careful, though, just in case.

The TOS on convention tickets specifically state:

"Savings only available to attendees and their guests!"

Yes, the voucher you receive is coded to show that it is a convention admission and which group you purchased it through. That info also shows up on the actual ticket you exchange it for.

Will they ask for proof that you attended the convention at the gate? Probably not.

Are you violating the TOS by purchasing convention tickets through a link you found online when you are not affiliated with that group or planning to attend any of their planned activities? Yes

Although I don't know for sure, I'm guessing the people who were turned away at the gate may have tried to use convention tickets outside of the intended dates. From what I understand Disney is very strict about that, but not about verifying affiliation.

Of course that could change at any moment. In my experience the "Slick Deals Effect" is very real. You weren't the only one to discover the thread on discounted Disney tickets. LOL

If Disney realizes they're selling far more convention tickets than would be expected, and I'm sure they track that info, they may very well take a look at stopping the abuse.

Is it really up to the convention organizers or up to Disney? I doubt the Gay Days folks had much to do with it. It's not like it was a formal convention with registration and convention center events and a fee, and they paid Disney some money to offer discounted tix.

I think for actual conventions that require registration, Disney would offer those only as after-hours tickets or require proof of convention registration if they really cared about the few people resourceful enough to buy them without being attendees.
