We are planning to attend a convention based at the Contemporary in 2012.
Since the rooms are at a special rate, does this keep us from getting the free dining plan?
I am afraid I already know the answer.

No free dining with convention pricing, or any other discounts. You have to pay full price for the room and purchase at least a 2 day park ticket for each person on the reservation to even be eligible for free dining.

As a note, you will likely also be ineligible for dining plans at all, since you aren't booking a package through WDTC at all (and aren't on DVC points reservation)
