Framing inspection:
Basically, my contractor has made us believe he had an architectural engineer draw up our plans for our cathedral ceiling and when the city engineer asked whom this person was and his license #, my contractor was suddenly at a loss for this info and could not remember his name. There are concerns as to it's support, it's not done correctly. The LVL needs more support than what is there and 2 more LVL's as well. It's clear that his engineer doesn't exist and trying to save himself money by doing the plans himself. Now it's not right and he doesn't want to spend anymore money on my house even though it's his problem.
So we cannot get a permit to move on and finish the inside of our 2nd floor until this is taken care of, we're talking about the roof being able to support a heavy snow load above our bedroom.
My city engineer told my contractor to have his engineer contact him to discuss the matter and my contractor thought he was in the clear and expected his last installment until we told him no.
I don't know how to insert a link, but if you look under my post "contractor nightmare - please advise", you'll see what we went thru, but now the windows are replaced and nailed in, the stairs are corrected, rafters nailed in tight, etc..
Anything else he brings to the city as required will be totally investigated to the fullest and if he falsifies a stamp or uses a bogus number, he can be charged with a class B misdemeanor.
I don't want him back in my house at all. I have a feeling he won't be back....he actually told my DH "it's not fair to hold my money b/c the inspector didn't pass YOU". I had another engineer come here to tell me it could be done with the proper structural ridges in place and drew up the plans for me.
I want to make sure I can fire him out right without any legal recourse on me since I don't want him here anymore.
Any experience with this type of thing?
