For my next trip, my parents are coming with us and we have a lock-off 2BR booked for 8 nights. When flight prices were released, I ended up booking for a day earlier so now my trip will be 9 nights. My parents are keeping the originally planned dates, so I'll be arriving a day before them.

To save a few points, I'm thinking of booking one night in a 1BR and eight nights in the 2BR rather than the full nine nights in the 2BR. But I really don't feel like changing rooms, so I'm hoping that they're able to somehow indicate that I'd like the 2BR to be the same unit as the 1BR, just with the lock-off opened up after the first night. Has anyone tried this and if so, was it successful?

It's possible, but not probable. Mostly depends how the studio assignments worked out. IOW, the people in the connecting studio have to be leaving on the day you check in to the two bedroom. You'd have better odds I'd you were going from the 2 bedroom to the 1 bedroom.

If you really don't want to move, you'll have to consider the extra points as the cost of convenience. Good luck!

Right but this sort of assumes that my 1BR assignment is random and then it's just luck of the draw whether the connecting Studio happens to be checking out the next day. I'm wondering if they can deliberately assign me my 1BR such that the connecting Studio definitely IS checking out the next day.

I don’t know if it is worth the risk of having to move because they can’t guarantee you that they can accommodate you and you won’t know until you check in the first day.

If you get there and find it hasn’t been done, and they can’t move you…or even require you to check out and then find you were put right back, how would you feel?

For one night, I’d spend the extra 10 or so points to know I didn’t have to move.

It can be done, but not guaranteed. We did something similar except we did the studio the day before. We were not counting on it happening, but were pleasantly surprised. A lot depends on if it’s busy. We did it shortly after they reopened so there was more flexibility. How many will be with you the day before? Do you have the extra points to book the 2 BR and is it available? Or maybe purchase the one time use points? It would be nice to have the 2 bedroom all set to go for when your parents arrive. The other half of our 2 bedroom was not ready until 3:30 or 4 and then everyone was rushing around to get ready for dinner. If I was already thinking of a one bedroom for one night, I think I would bite the bullet and make it the two bedroom.
Have a great time....I’m sure your parents will treasure the memories.

A couple of years ago we started in a 1 br. for a couple of nights then had a 2 br. lock off. I asked at check in if we were being moved or just adding the studio next door, they wouldn’t tell me. I asked again on check out/in morning & was told we were moving. Packed up, stashed everything at bell services, went off to a park. Got a text that afternoon - they’d put us back into the same 1 br. & added the studio next door, so we collected our stuff from bell services & schlepped it back to where we’d started.
You may or may not get to stay in the same villa & just add the connecting villa.
Even if you are assigned the same villa for reservation #2 the resort may nevertheless require you to vacate the villa at the end of reservation #1 & ‘check in’ later for reservation #2.
The price of one night’s points would likely be worth it to me to just start w/ the 2 br. & not hassle moving + no worries about possibly having to wait around to check in at or after 4 pm for you or your parents on day 2.

I would assume you have to move for this one. You have to decide if that's worth risking. It would be to me.

I’ve been successful several times, but mostly because I went to the front desk and discussed my plans with them. Not exactly the same. i had a 2 bedroom lockoff and dropped to a studios later and was allowed to keep the studios side. It’s a win for both of us as theres no need to reclean the studio, saving the resort the extra housekeeping. I hope to do what you want in June. 1 night Studio to 7 night 2 bedroom lockoff then back to studio for 1 night. Bwv. I will probably have it noted on my reservation then visit the front desk.

Yes, I have done this and it worked by asking member services to link the 2 reservations, then calling the resort front desk and asking them to link the 2 reservations. I did this about 10 yrs ago though, so I hope all the necessary players are as user friendly as they were in the past. Good Luck!! (I hate changing rooms too!)

Can they? Sure. Will they? Well, it's Yet Another Constraint on how room assignments happen, and they might not want to add it and make their lives harder.

We did this once at BLT. Our 1 bedroom and studio were on different floors. We had done everything others suggested - talking to MS and the front desk at BLT. Didn’t matter. I would book the 2 bedroom for all of the nights, but I detest having to move villas at Disney - wastes so much of my day being in limbo.
