Continuing dogs in resorts.

That is my concern too. I'm allergic to dogs and severely allergic to cats. If Disney does not keep some rooms pet free what happens if someone has a severe reaction because either the room wasn't cleaned well enough or a family with a service animal is placed at the table next to mine while eating. Not that I would sue if a severe reaction occurred but could a person sue Disney? What if a dog bites another guest?? I guess I have a problem that someone else's rights infringes on mine. Where is the liability in those situations? When a child has a severe peanut allergy everyone does everything to make sure it is a nut free environment.

At a certain point it's just personal responsibility. Disney still sells peanut/peanut butter items all over the parks and resorts and don't prohibit people from bringing their own peanut items. They will work with you to ensure your food is completely peanut free, but Disney World is in no way a nut free environment.

We had a service dog at the next table when we had dinner at BOG last trip. Super well behaved, didn't move from it's handler's feet the whole time. I'm sure if that was an issue for you they'd find you another table.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me that the dogs are not permitted in the restaurants! Nothing against pets but as KyleAfterAWhile said, many people purchase bogus paperwork and do not have a true service animal. My DH and I were at a Chick Fil A recently and someone brought in an "emotional support" dog and they were actually feeding the dog from the table.

I do have an allergy to dogs and control my exposure but having animals where food is served is just UGH!

POR was my favorite resort but I won't go back until I know for sure that the pets are confined to specific buildings. Nothing against pets and those who love them, but I for one, would not want to be in a room next to someone with a dog who could potentially be barking half the night at every sound as a result of being in an unfamiliar place.
They are not supposed to be in the restaurants but I saw 2 dogs at AKL (where they are not allowed) and this lady was walking into The Mara. Now I do not know if they asked her to leave as we were heading in different directions. She was entering and we were leaving.

I'm guessing by this statement you haven't been right by a service animal IRL yet.

I've experienced service animals out and about. At Cracker Barrel there was a time where one was laying on the ground at the table next to me. I assume should I have had an issue with this due to allergies I speak to the hostess seating me and request to be seated elsewhere.

This specific issue is not a Disney issue but an 'encounter in real life' issue.

Anyone know if any of the Royal guest rooms at POR are pet friendly? We are traveling with someone with allergies and want to avoid the dog rooms. POR Royal rooms are our first choice but don’t want to risk staying in a pet friendly room
Supposedly only certain buildings are where they book the guests with dogs... HOWEVER, the Royal Rooms are also a HUGE moneymaker for Disney, so if you had a guest who was willing to shell out the cash to put their dog in a Royal Room with their family, I presume Disney would totally take their money and let them stay in the Royal Room with their dog/s. :(

I really wanted to experience POR... but it will not happen now.

My problem with the dog policy is that so many dog owners (not all) are of the "Give and inch, take a yard" variety. You allow them to brig pets to the hotel and the next thing you know, they are eating off the tables in restaurants and present in the parks.

I wish Disney would grow a set and handle pet owners who are violating the rules. Confront the owners who bring the dogs in tot he restaurants. My SIL has twice reported errant owners to CMs and both times she was dismissed, being told there was nothing they could do about it.

Service animals have all rights that the handler has. Unless the handler is trespassing, the dog has sa right to be wherever. But, an establishment has the right to ask the handler to remove that dog if it is misbehaving.

Service animals do not need any type of certificate, licences or other documentation BUT a business can ask the handler two questions: Is this dog helping a person with a disability and what tasks is the animal trained to perform.

Emotional Support Animals are only protected by law when it comes to housing laws and the Air Carrier Act - which allows them to fly in planes. They are NOT allowed in restaurants (by health code) or in any place where the landowner does not want them. Disney can make magic kingdom dog friendly if it wants but until it does, calling an animal an ESA does not give it a right to be in the parks.

Disney needs to empower CMs to ask the two specific questions and inform guests with pets and ESAs that they must comply with the rules.

This reminds me of our flight from Toronto to Lisbon a month ago. While we’re checking in, the flight attendants are fawning over a cat in a carrier. As we are boarding I check to make sure we are as far away as possible, as my son is allergic.

Half way through the 8 hr flight his eyes are running and puffed out & he needs his puffer to stop wheezing. No more than 15 mins later flight staff are literally crawling through the plane with pen lights.

Two of them stop near us talking about how they’ll have to wait until we arrive. Quite loudly I say “Well it’s here somewhere.” The just stare at me. “The cat? It’s around here somewhere because I’ve just had to medicate my kid who’s allergic.” They just walked away, seriously, not a word to me.

I am so very tired of animals coming before humans. Any of us are bitten and I won’t hesitate to sue Disney. I’m sure others feel the same.

We're veering off topic into a general gripe-fest. And not even new gripes. The same gripes that the same people have made over and over again. It's time for this thread to be done.

If you have questions about the dog-friendly resorts policy, check out our new FAQ thread on the topic.

This "emotional support animal" thing is out of control everywhere. It is not limited to Disney. I see them in the grocery stores, people take them into fast food places, shopping malls, etc. Businesses have signs posted that you cannot take an animal in unless it is a service animal, but these entitled people do it anyhow. They will enforce the 30.0.6 rule, but let people take their Papillions and Terriers into the produce section of the grocery store. Ugh! One lady had a chihuahua in a little boy army outfit, in a baby carrier on the front of her sitting upright, which is harmful to his tail and spine, with his ears double-pierced. I wanted to beat her for doing that to the dog. I am not a violent person and I have never hit a woman in my life, but I wanted to.
