Hi,

I booked my Virgin flights today for £389 (although got for £349 with M+M) and now when I look at Continental for the same date they are doing flights for £321 but they are operated by Virgin.

They are my flights!

We are going on 28th April and returning on 12th May.

Can Virgin sell their flights for more than Continental are selling them for?

Christie

They have been code share for a few years, can't remember how many years ago we booked continental at about half the price Virgin were charging, then turned out to be Virgin flight, didn't know when we booked it.

I booked with Continental last year on a Virgin codeshare flight and it was a lot cheaper. Apparently the taxes are cheaper if booked through a US carrier.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but does anyone know if it's possible to pay the dollar price on the US Continental Airlines site instead of booking through the UK Continental site and paying GBP?
My flights are £641 return in September but $638 which, at the current exchange rate, works out at about £450. When you're a student, that is quite a saving!!

As far as I know the only way you can do it is book via an agent, I used Orbitz.com last Oct, paid £240pp($480) but on UK sites they were about £450. Recently its been just as cheap to book in £'s since the £ lost ground against the $.
Are you sure the $ price includes all taxes and fees, usually UK sites include them but US sites add them on after you accept the price.
What dates you wanting? and which airport & how many people I will check all sites I use if you give me details.

Yeah, maybe it wasn't with taxes or something - it did seem incredibly low!
It's for two adults, 2nd September to the 16th September this year, going from Gatwick. I'll have another look around, but if you find anything for me then that'd be a great help :goodvibes

1st scan I did came up with Delta from Gatwick at £300pp with ebookers.com or £301 with Opodo.co.uk
Personally I would go from Heathrow if at all possible Northwest Airlines thru Opodo.co.uk £302pp, we did this route last Oct, great flight times and best transatlantic flights we have ever done.
Will have another look but they are cheapest so far.

Ah just had a thought, was your Continental direct? ie code share with Virgin?
just seen £315pp with cheaptickets.com for that flight from Gatwick

Slightly cheaper but not a lot.
The delta ones with Majortravel.co.uk £290pp
NWA from Heathrow £298pp with Netflights

Continental (Virgin plane) looks best from Gatwick at £630 for 2 adults

As others have said, Virgin Atlantic have a codeshare agreement with Continental, which means Continental sell tickets for Virgin Atlantic flights on their behalf. Nothing is different - a Continental codeshare passenger is treated exactly the same as a passenger who booked directly with VA. Virgin can sell tickets at any price they wish; there is no obligation for their prices to be lower than the Continental codeshare price.

It's always a bad idea to check flight prices AFTER you've booked! Nobody likes that kind of surprise......

Thanks for all your help!

Never again!!! Couldn't help but look! Only good thing is that Virgin got us a good deal on connecting flights to Gatwick so it prob balances out!
