Hi everyone:
i did search the Continental airlines site and the answer to this question wasn't there and i thought maybe someone here would know.

DH, DD and I are going to Charlotte next week. We will be flying on a smaller 'local' jet (the one with a row of one seat and then 2 seats across the isle. The flight is only 2 hours long. My assumption is that we are going to have to gate check our carry on luggage. Does anyone know if I will be charged a check bag fee if we gate check?

thanks
Lara

If it's due to plane design, probably not - but why not just call Continental and ask?

I flew to Baltimore earlier this year on the same type of plane (Embraer RJ145). My carry on bag was gate checked, and I didn't pay any baggage fees. Of course, I did pay fees for the one bag I checked through.

No you won't have to pay any baggage fees but those planes are small and they pack stuff in like nobody's business! It's kink of cool and fun b/c it's a quick and tidy process.

Just remember if you check your bag plane side (where they give you a small blue claim tag) on a regional jet remember you pick it up plane side as well when you reach your destination. The blue tagged bags do NOT go to baggage claim. Even though you are checking the bag plane side you will still be held to all the carry on restrictions (size, liquids, sharps, etc.) since you are hand carrying the bag past the security check point.

I just flew on one of those on Continental. No charge to leave the bag at the gate.
