Contemporary Questions

Hi there!
We're thinking about possibly trying the Contemporary for our next trip, and I have a few questions.

1) Is there a way to guarantee a tower room? We wouldn't want to stay in a Garden Wing.

2) Are the Junior Suites considered concierge rooms? The prices on them seem fairly good for an above-average room. Also, how many people do these rooms sleep?

3) Can you walk to the MK? If so, is it on a formal pathway?

4) How is the transportation to the other parks? Are there buses, or is it through the monorail?

5) How is the food court?

6) How is the pool area?

Thanks so much!!! ::MinnieMo

1 - you book a tower room, not a garden room. Tower rooms are more expensive.

2 - no, if you want a concierge suite, you have to book it. They are quite expensive.

3 - yes, there is a sidewalk.

4 - I found it good. Monorail to MK & Epcot. Buses to other parks. Boat to WL and FW.

5 - typical fast food, premade sandwiches, snacks, etc.

6 - We didn't use it during our first stay.

We love the CR & are returning in 2 weeks.

1. Pay for a tower room. Upgrades are not guaranteed. If you want a tower room you need to pay the extra money.

2. I believe that all the Junior Suites are in the Garden Wings. At least they were when I made my reservations.

3. Yes. It is a less than 10 minute walk for the North Garden Wing.

5. Chef Mickeys, California Grill, and Concourse Steakhouse get pretty good reviews. Counter service place gets pretty bad reviews although the arcade is nice.

6. Pretty standard pool, although the slides and hot tubs are nice.

:)Book a tower room.
:)Look at www.mousesavers.com for a possible discount.

:) I do not know about Jr Rooms.
:) Tower rooms - standard sleep 5 - 2 queen beds and day bed
Views - You pay more for a view of bay lake - the other side of the tower faces MK, but also the road and drivway up to CR.

3) Can you walk to the MK? If so, is it on a formal pathway?
:) YES - about a 10 min walk. Pathway is lit. You do have to cross the road to get to CR - but there is a traffic light.

4) How is the transportation to the other parks? Are there buses, or is it through the monorail?
:) Buses come every ten minutes. No problems. Just watch the signs to see where to sit. Make sure you get on the right bus.
:) Take the monorail to another deluxe resort near MK. or take the monorail to the TTC to catch a connecting monorail to EPCOT.
Ask to sit up by the driver. 4 people maximum.

5) How is the food court?
:) food - Chef Mickeys B&L - make a PS. Concouse - L&D - make a PS but can get in without one. Snack Bar next to the game room -
plenty of choices, chicken, burgers, sandwhoches, salads, desserts, drinks AND another snakc bar out by the pool
:) game room - best on site. Extreamly large. Win tickets and turn in for prizes like at Chucky Cheese.

6) How is the pool area?
:) large circle pool with a view of the lake.
:) kiddie pool
:) Mickey shaped pool with a water slide - I guess to be about 35 feet long, about 20 feet heufgr with 1 loop.
:) towels available at the pool.
:) hairwraps for girls can be done (cost)
:) MARINA right next door to the pool. Rent a boat, water mouse,
bike to ride around.
:) take a picture next to the metal Mickey sculpture. Place your kids in the ears. It's near the pool area. Wonderful gardens and views of the lake.

enjoy :bounce:

There hasn't been a kiddie pool at the Contemporary Resort for years. It used to be located near the North Garden Wing. The playground is located where the kiddie pool used to be.

Next to the "Mickey" pool is a kiddie splash area with waterjets squirting out of the ground.

In 2002, the bus picked (and dropped off) at the Contemporary, then the Polynesian, then the Grand Floridian Resorts. I don't know if this has changed.

Another comment about the bus. They do share a bus with the other two as indicated above and Contemporary is first to be picked up and first to be dropped off. Very nice. We split our stay at Cont and Poly last year and it was a noticeable difference waiting for buses. We waited much longer at Poly. I remember waiting over 1/2 hour for a bus to Blizzard Beach (which shares with another park - is it AK?). I wondered if the bus filled up at Cont and we had to wait for a second bus.

Thanks so much everyone!!!
I didn't know you can specifically book a tower room, as the WDW website has been down when I've tried to use it lately. But I am glad to know it can be done...I just didn't want to book a regular room and get there to find out I was in a Garden Wing.

We're still in the thinking process, but the Contemporary is definitely growing on us. Depends on who comes with us right now, and whether we stay in one place or split our stay.

One more question, if you don't mind...for breakfast, we usually rent a fridge, and buy some cereal, milk, and OJ. We're used to buying the milk at the BWV general store when we've stayed at the YC or BC (the DVC resorts seem to have better food-purchasing options). Is there a place to buy a full carton of milk at the Contemporary?

Thanks again! ::MinnieMo

P.S. PrincessDadx2, your little ones are soooooo cute!!!

I'm pretty sure the gift shop did have these. If they don't, you can hop the boat over to either FW or WL. They have tons of supplies because of the villa's & cabins.
