I AM NOT SURE WHAT BOARD TO ASK THIS ON SO HERE GOES. tHIS SUMMER WE ARE STAYING AT THE CONTEMP. wE WANT TO BRING OUR DOG WITH US. i KNOW SHE HAS TO STAY AT THE KENNEL. dOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE KENNEL BY THE TTC HAS OVERNIGHT OR JUST THE ONE BY FORT WILDERNESS. I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO DRIVE TO THE KENNELS AT FORT WILDRENESS, CAN ANYONE CONFIRM IF THE MAIN GATE KENNEL KEEPS PETS OVERNIGHT AND IF THEY HAVE IN DOOR KENNELS LARGE ENOUGH FOR A GREYHOUND? I DO NOT WANT HER LEFT OUTSIDE. THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

I asked questions about bringing a dog (we have an adopted greyhound and worry about leaving her at home) to Disney on this very site about two months ago. I got many great responses from people. There are several kennels at Disney, and they have crates large enough for a greyhound. However, there are no reservations taken, so it is first come, first serve. You need to go to the kennel at least once a day to walk your dog. As I understand it, the Epcot kennel has the nicest dog walking area. For a small fee, kennel walkers will also walk you dog for you. I didn't know if I thought this was a good idea with a greyhound-you know-never leave them off the leash, and they are very quick to lunge. Disney will feed your dog their own food, or you may bring your own. The brand name of dog food the woman at the kennel gave me was not one that was good for greyhounds. The people will also feed snacks if you leave them. My best source of information was the Disney website, which gave facts about the kennels, and, I believe, a phone number to call (f not, I got the phone number from one of my Disney books). Anyway, I called the number, which took me to the kennel outside the Magic Kingdom. I spoke to a nice woman, and then I called back several days later to confirm all of the information she gave me. Probably the best bit of advice I was given that was not understood by many people that e-mailed me advice, was that the kennels are open 24 hours a day to dog owners. You can go to the kennel, show identification that you are the dog owner, and there is someone there 24 hours a day to let you in. The kennels do "open and close," but I was assured that dog owners can always get in. Best wishes on this.

at the TTC site. Wouldn't do it again....I was constantly running back and forth to walk and feed and walk and feed..........It's not a 'quick' process to get around from park to park and back to kennel to meet your dogs needs. Disney will not let the pet out of the cage at all...and once a day is not enough. If you are not back first thing in the a.m...they tell you about it!! Even if it's monorail delays that hold you up.
They also will not guarantee a large cage for your dog. You could arrive there and there be only small ones available. Just my opinion...but I hated it!:(

I strongly advise leaving your dog at home in a proper kennel with appropriate care (walk services, runs, etc...) or hiring an in home pet sitter. Not that Disney kennels are totally awful but that you will spend the majority of your time running back and forth to walk her, visit etc...Not exactly the most relaxing holiday for you or your pet.

There are a lot of very nice doggie resorts in Orlando where you could still drive out and visit him. :D

I think it is more humane to find a nice kennel at home with a appropriate run for a greyhound. The kennel we use takes your dog out to an exercise yard three times per day with human interaction as well as a long run. Once the dog is there and used to his surroundings I think it is almost cruel to go visit them three times per day. I know that would confuse my lab more than just leaving him somewhere for a week. He would be like "Whaaaat, take me home, where are you going? NOooooooooooooo" - lol. I can't imagine dropping my dog off in a crate and then visiting and leaving him each and every day. That might make me feel better as a dog owner if I missed him but it definitely would not make my dog feel better to see me come and leave him constantly.

I totally agree that for the health and comfort of your doggie family, it is a much better idea to board at home, or get someone that your dog knows and trusts to sit for him/her while you are gone. Vacations are fun for humans, but very stressful for the canine and feline crowd.

I believe Disneymommie's question was whether or not the kennel at TTC had overnight stays not whether or not she should kennel at home or elsewhere. Does anyone have the answer to this question?

Thank you for the replys. I do value your opinions. I did not realize that I could not reserve a large cage and that they did not have dog runs. My poor girl would not like that. Also I did not think of the confusion it would cause her to see us come and go 3 or 4 times a day. I will start looking into other options. I have a friend who will watch her but I feel bad she will be left home alone for lengths of time between vivits. I will have to look into other things. AGAIN THANKS>
