I was recently diagnosed with Raynauds disease which is genetic so I knew most likely that I was going to get it... what it is is blood can stop flowing to finger and toe tips so they turn white which means in the winter it is extremely painful in the cold and since I live in New England its cold a lot in the winter.

My mom who also has this purchased a home in florida and like many retirees does the summer here and winter there... this is the first winter shes been down there for a significant amount of time because of work and what not and talking to her last night she said that shes been feeling great mean while I haven't felt my pinky finger in 2 days ...

Besides going to college I've never moved out of state before... any tips or advice... I'm thinking of Florida either Winter Haven or Lakeland area any one from the area?

I work in Special Education and have been thinking of making a switch back to adult human services so I started looking for places... My lease isn't up until August 31 so when should I start sending out resumes and what not?

Thanks!

The job market here isn't good...especially for teachers. The sooner you apply, probably, the better. Good luck!

I lived in Florida at two differnt times quite some time ago (1994 and 2000). I was a retail worker when I lived in Lakeland and Haines City which is near Winterhaven so our jobs wouldn't be comparable but for me the job market was difficult. I worked two jobs at Lakeland Square Mall and could barely make ends meet. I worked at Lake Wales Mall too and that was even worse. It was hard to find a retail job because I didn't speak Spanish so I was lucky to have those jobs. I tried to get out of retail and move into hospitality but because I didn't speak a second language I couldn't find a job that paid more than minimum wage in that industry. Given the industry that you want to go into, maybe you would have much better luck.

I am so sorry for your diagnosis.

The sooner the better to get out your resumes!

Congrats on the first step towards a possible move to the Sunshine state. I moved down two years ago and I'll tell you what, even with struggling at times and being laid off for over 6 months, a person could not pay me to move back north!

I generally just feel happier down here! My mood is always better, I'm more active than I was up north, and for once in my life have really started to become my own person!

Good luck with your endevors and keep us posted!

I have Raynauds too and I can't imagine living in a cold climate with the pain that comes from it. I think you should give it a try but you might have to look at another line of work just to start you off until you can get into the teaching field.
