I'm not entirely sure if this is the correct place to post this but hey ho!

I'm planning a trip to WDW in either 2012/2013 but want to inquire about this this now as i'm visiting Blackpool Pleasure Beach next week. (Not quite as exciting!)

What are the general thoughts about glasses or contact lenses at theme parks?

Preferably I'd prefer to wear contacts as i'm not a fan of my glasses but i know they react badly with tap water i'm worried about them on any water rides?

I also have an irrational fear that my glasses will fall off on a ride and hate that when i take them off to ride i can't see all that much!

Thanks in advance for any opinions :)

I wear contact lenses and refuse to wear glasses - can't stand them

I should also add that I am good for nothing without my lenses in as I am very short sighted. I have been to Disney several times and only taken my contacts with me. And yes, I have done water rides without a second thought and even swim with them in (I would be a hazzard without then :rotfl2:)

Most people tend to instinctively duck or put sheild their faces when they realise they are about to be hit by a spray of water and it is pretty easy to anticipate this. Splash Mountain: you know it's coming at the bottom of the big drop. Kali River Rapids: well, you can see when you are about to be drenched. If you prefer your contacts, go with them. If it makes you feel better, take your glasses as well as back up. I have never had a problem there and have not had any problems whatsoever. :goodvibes

I would love to wear contact lenses but the idea of putting them in/ taking them out freaks me out. I just accept that I can't see much and leave my glasses in the car - I'm paranoid about them flying off.

I will only wear my contacts - hate my glasses.

I have never have trouble with the water rides or swimming in them.

even if you wear your contacts, i would still bring your glasses as a backup...

and if you're blind as a bat without glasses (as are DH and DD), and you only wear glasses, i would take a backup pair of glasses as well...

Blind as a bat too! I always wear my contacts at Disney (other theme parks too). I wear daily disposables - so I take enough pairs for each day plus some spares & my glasses.

I find them easier in parks - especially when going from light to dark - sunglasses can come off easy on to top of head etc - whereas if wearing my glasses it's a faff to swap to prescription glasses & vice versa:cool1:

Wouldn't be without contacts in Water Park - I'd never find the kids! Wouldn't wear glasses - found too many at Typhoon Lagoon wave pool to risk that! Opticians don't reccomend this as lenses 'hold' dirty water in your eyes - mine advised if you do wear them to swim take them out as soon as you leave the park; rather than keep them in all evening. I'd normally swap to my glasses or you could put a 'clean' pair in.

If you're worried about losing expensive contact lenses (I'm assuming they're expensive!!) ask about wearing daily disposables for your holidays - don't need to take cleaning products either then!

I wear glasses and wear then at water park/on rides.

I can only remember taking them off on duelling dragons at universal.

BUT i'm a wuss and don't go on any of the real coasters/slides so have never found it a problem.

My sister and I wore our glasses on all the rides at WDW - even RnR (multiple times).

We didn't swim as it was December and too cold but we went to Atlantis water park in Dubai and kept our glasses on all the slides including the Leap of Faith (a Summit Plummit type slide) and during a dolphin swim. I took spare glasses with me just incase as I'm totally blind without them.

I've always worn my contact lenses on rides and in the pool/sea and never even though about it to be honest, you won't have any problems.

The only ride that I managed to get water in my eyes on was in WWoHP on the forbidden journey, you are in the dark when the spider squirts you and it got me straight in the eye! :goodvibes
I used to always take an old pair of specs with me to wear on rides, that way it didn't matter if they came off on a ride.
