Construction near CBR?

We were at CBR a year ago and were waiting at the bus stop in front of Port Royale (Calypso), facing away from the buildings and across the road. There was a lot of tree removal and construction equipment just behind the line of trees across the road. This did not seem to
be the site of the Pop Century.
When we questioned a WDW bus driver, he said that the property
right next to CBR is not owned by Disney and an outside company
is building there.
Has someone who has been there recently seen anything there? Is
there still construction along the road behind the tree line?
Could this have been an access road to the Pop Century?
Since I haven't read anything about this, I assume it is not really
an outside construction project or surely a Dis'er would have
reported on it. Just wondered what was going on there.

It is a new time share from Fairfield - Disney does not own this property on the North side of I-4 and bordered by CBR

Thanks

Oh please don't tell me that there is construction going on next to the CBR !! The CBR has been my family's "hideaway" for years and we look forward to the peace of the well-planned resort with its beautifully landscaped grounds . . . One of the pleasures of staying there is that it has such a marvelously isolated feeling, with the screening provided by trees and empty land around it, one feels very very far away from the excitement and busy-ness of the Kingdoms.

As the years have gone by, and the children have grown up, we spend more and more of our vacation time at the resort and less time in the parks, and days and nights at the CBR, especially with the really excellent food now available at Shutters, are as restful a vacation as a person could want. Will we now be looking directly into hotel properties overlooking the CBR grounds? Will we lose the sense of privacy we have there now?

I stopped by for a visit at CBR a few weeks ago and was shocked at how close this is going to be. I had previously seen the entrance road that was put in but they have excavated huge loads of trees out of the area (though there is somewhat of a layer of them between CBR and the new place) and you can see over there easily. If the places they are going to put in are more then 3-4 stories tall they will ve visible from CBR. It is really depressing to see this happen. Hopefully there will be no high rises.

I don't know when you were last there, but the construction has been going on for over two years. I was there just after 9-11 at Martinique in CBR and lots of trees had been removed and there was a large dirt road. I asked several people and was informed that the hotel had to replant trees similar to those take out and the hotel itself would not be visible from CBR. Actually nothing is supposed to be visible from CBR. Some kind of a contract between the hotel chain and WDW. I was also told that a Japanese chain was building the hotel (for what that is worth).

I was at CBR in late April/Early May and was told the construction was Pop Century. In fact, when we would walk around the grounds at night and would cross over by the road, (that goes between Trinidad North and South) you could see the large bowling pin type structures that I have seen in the Pop Century ads. Is this the same construction you are all talking about?

SarahJ, that is not the same construction. They sure are taking a long time with that plot of land next to CBR. If it was Disney they would have been done long ago.

My coworker left to work on the new condos down there. He says Disney will not own them but apparently it is a very big project

Safetymom, Where is the condo construction?? The bowling pin structures are Pop Century right?? Is the condo constuction going on right next to CBR? There was a construction entrance near the CBR entrance. Is that the condo's?? It was our boat driver on the Illuminations cruise who told us it was Pop Century, and I just believed him!!

sarahj, the bowling pins are Pop Century. If you are coming from DTD, the construction entrance is right before CBR. At this stage all it looks like they have done is grading and installed some lighting.

Thanks safetymom! I was having such a good time on my vacation (our first time without our kids!) that I probably wasn't paying as much attention to surroundings!!:p
