Hello!
We've considered DVC in the past, but are now very seriously investigating.
My question is "What does disney consider to be a week?" We normally arrive on a Sunday and depart on Saturday. I've checked the dreams book we were given and DH says it would be considered a week's stay of points, and I say it would be a sun-thur stay and one friday night stay, which is correct? Also, do the points per night that the dreams book lists change yearly like the rack rate on rooms does or are those fixed point values that never change? I know the pts change according to seasons. We don't want to base a purchase thinking we need 140pts during January and then the pts go up and we need 200pts for January years downt the road. Thanks for any help/advice:)

A week is any consecutive 7 nights.

If you check in on a Sunday and check out on a Saturday, then you would be staying 6 nights. You would pay the Sun -Thur rate for the first five nights of the stay and the Friday rate for the last night.

The point charts do not change from year to year. Note that since the dates for Easter and Thanksgiving change each year, the point charts reflect that.

Disney cannot change the total number of points required to reserve every unit for every night of the year. They can only reallocate them. In other words, if they raise the cost of some nights, then they have to lower something else so that the net change is zero. This has been done only once since DVC began - at OKW (before any other DVC resorts were built). I don't expect it to occur in the future, but it could.

We are in the process of a purchase ourselves. With DVD there is so much more flexability than with other time shares that are true week to week vacations. With DVD you can stay any combination of nights for instance S-Th would save you some points since F-S nights are highr points. Click on the link above for The Timeshare Store and you will find all of the point charts for each resort.

Go to caskbill's site and download his DVC Planner and you can play with the dates and resorts to see how many points you will need in coming years at different times. It is a great planning tool.

The number of points for a week that are listed on the points chart are equal to 5 weekday and 2 weekend nights during that time period. They are only there for convenience in planning, there is no "discount" for staying a full 7 nights, nor is it a requirement. You can stay as little as 1 night.

Okay here's another quesiton.....

What does BLT stand for and what is the 'rumor' about when it will be available for purchase? I believe it to be the DVC being built at the CR but I don't know what BLT is the acronym for  We really intend on buying DVC in Jan when we are there but DH doesn't want to purchase AKV b/c he thinks it's too remote, and mentioned that he'd rather buy DVC at CR.
I've got it! Bay Lake Towers!

...And the lights went on all over the world!:rotfl: :rotfl2:
Sorry...just had to say it.
That being said, Tagrel.com also has a good calculator that can help identify points needed for each trip stay.

:lmao:

And yet ANOTHER question, I know suprise, suprise

We plan our vacations for Jan  If we purchase in Jan 09 (making it a Jan uy?) those points would expire Dec 31, 2009 (correct?) and then we wouldn't have our points to use for vacation in 2010 unless we banked them?? Is that right?:headache:

Hello
The month that you purchase doesn't necessarily mean your use "month". We purchased in May, and got a December use year. I think i've read where people have talked with their guides to determine the best UY for your individual circumstances....and then there's availability.
Hope this helps :)

We plan our vacations for Jan

a sept, oct, or dec UY would typically be best. if you never have to cancel a reservation though, it won't ever matter.

If we purchase in Jan 09 (making it a Jan uy?)

depends on what they are selling and what is still available for that resort, not when you buy. (and there is not a jan UY for any DVC resort, just FYI.)

those points would expire Dec 31, 2009 (correct?)

if there were a jan UY, yes.

and then we wouldn't have our points to use for vacation in 2010 unless we banked them?? Is that right?:headache:

yes. you'd have to bank them in that situation.

What is caskbill's site? I've seen it mentioned before, but can't find a link.

Hi, We are considering buying DVC as well. How do you know which use year is better for you? Disney is offering AKL now with a December use year. I am trying to figure out if there is any negative to having a dec uy.

Thanks! I am a newbie!:surfweb:
