I’m weighing my options in terms of buying DVC. I really love the Poly, so that’s my first choice, but anywhere near the Magic Kingdom would be okay. If I choose a cheaper contact at the Grand Floridian or Bay Lake, how difficult would it be to occasionally stay at the Poly if I don’t own there?

Poly has excellent 7-month availability from what I've seen. All they have are studios so never usually an issue to book. Are you buying resale or direct?

Not hard all to book the Poly at 7 months.

Caveat: we don't know about the availability to book Poly 2.

Wanting to do resale if I find a contract I like.

Time of year matters too... In 'broad general terms' Early/Mid Sept - Early Jan are 'tougher to book' 7 month windows at WDW.. i.e. the week before xmas might be tough to find 7 days in a row at 7 months in a std studio...

Category also matters, for example, the standard view at Poly will be tougher than Lakeview... generally the cheaper the point 'value' the quicker it gets booked up... ( i.e. studio < 2br < 1br )

But yeah, fairly good availability.

This guy has some pretty cool data: ( I think it's ok to link this here)

There's a page that show's availability in recent years.

Good Luck!

I always say, go with what your heart tells you. But there are some really good deals out there for BLT. Of course I'm a little biased because I love and own BLT. There is also that big unknown with what will happen to the value of existing Poly if the new Poly Tower is a separate Condo association. Most believe current Poly resale will go down if separate, but will go up if it's the same association. If you don't care about the Poly Tower, then go for it.
