Considering a Disneymoon... Resort Advice?

FI and I have recently started to think about a Disneymoon (before we had been planning a Caribbean-tropical-type thing). I get excited thinking about it because we are both WDW nuts and we would finally have the time to do those things you never quite get around to on regular trips. My only hold up is that I don't want it to feel like "just another Disney trip". I've been looking at some pictures of suites, mostly on allears.net, and a lot of them look a little....hokey? Some of the decor seems pretty outdated.

Any suggestions for a great room/suite for a Disneymoon? I was immediately drawn to either Poly (because I LOVE the atmosphere) or GF (because it feels very honeymoon), but the pics of the suites look just eh. I'm not sure. Thanks for any ideas!

Some of the pictures on Allearsnet are outdated. I would recommend booking a Deluxe King Room in the Main Building of the GF. You can request a turret room, there are only four I think, but they are amazing. We stayed in one for our wedding this August. I would also consider a Garden Suite at the BWI, those look really amazing too.

We went with Port Orleans Riverside, and requested Magnolia Bend- southern mansions, evening carriage rides, gorgeous landscape, and right on the water. Allears has recent pics. GF is an awesome pick too, or the Poly- that's my dream but too pricey, lol.

If you're worried about hokey, steer clear of the Polynesian. Don't get me wrong—I *love* tiki culture and all it entails, but the rooms (which were redecorated just a few years ago) definitely have that sort of "upscale '70s motel" feel to them, which makes it all the more galling that Disney prices them so high.

You might look into renting points for a 1-bedroom villa at Bay Lake Tower—it has the newest and most modern decor. I was worried it would feel like sleeping in IKEA, but it felt very plush, plus you get a jacuzzi tub and rainfall shower (my personal favorite luxuries... outside of free laundry!). BoardWalk Inn's rooms have also been redone fairly recently and have more of a tony feel than the Contemporary. My dream has always been to stay in a Garden Suite there.

I also love Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge. Both these resorts feel like I"m not at Disney but an exotic location. I'm local and will sometimes stay here for a quick weekend getaway.. spend a lot of time by the pool and reading a book. It's far from the parks, which to me is an awesome thing, but might not be for you. They're also a bit less expensive than the other deluxe resorts.

I agree that a lot of the hotels have what looks like outdate decor. Find the theme you like best and book at hotel at that resort. We really like Coronado springs. I think that to make it better than "just another trip to Disney" you can book fancy dinners, little excursions, and a private fireworks viewing. Splurge for the things that you wouldn't normally do. I know that Citricos has a private chef's table dinner that can be booked, maybe some other restaurants having similar things? Happy planning!

Due to a lot of the deluxe resorts looking outdated, we perfer to stay at Coronado Springs as well! We love that they have queen beds, very modern and fresh looking and is a great price. Not to mention the grounds are beautiful and tropical! Thats where we will be staying for our wedding/honeymoon at the end of September/October!

I second this!!!! We stayed in a 1 bedroom at Bay Lake and it was HUGE!!! We loved it so much and the shower was amazing!!! We also really love AKL.

We really enjoyed our time at Port Orleans Riverside if you're looking for a moderate resort. We stayed there for our honeymoon in the Magnolia Bend section with a river view room and it was gorgeous, as mentioned above...I still smile when I think about that resort!

We had a refurbed room in Coronado and loved it - that's why we've booked OKW as they are currently being refurbed - plus in a 1 bed villa you get a balcony and a 2 person jacuzzi bath

Thanks everyone for all the tips! Pezaddict231, thank you for the pictures-- it looks beautiful! I had no idea there were four poster beds in some of the GF rooms, it's so pretty!

Aw, I'm bummed to hear that. I was hoping some of the suites would be a little fancier than the standard rooms. I think I could easily spend a whole day in the Tambu lounge :goodvibes

I'll have to look into the Garden Suites and BLT. I love the idea of staying in the Contemporary. I'm a total kid in Disney and I get entirely too excited about the monorail!

I have never been to OKW-- have pictures surfaced yet of the refurbed rooms?

:rotfl: This made me smile in an otherwise dull day.

Good luck with your planning - I'm sure anywhere that you stay on Disney property will make for a wonderful honeymoon.

My first Disneymoon was at the Grand Floridian, in a Garden Room. Very nice. Expensive, but nice. We booked this because we thought there would be less kids at an expensive, flagship resort hotel. If there were, we couldn't tell. The place was positively infested with rugrats. :rotfl:

My next Disneymoon is going to be at the Contemporary, after a four-night cruise on the Disney Dream. Yes, even though the first marriage didn't work out, the honeymoon was so magical that I'm willing to do it again.

Thanks for the pictures, lurkyloo! The room looks very peaceful.

I like the idea of the GF because that's where we are staying on the actual wedding night. Our reception is in the ballroom, so we decided to stay there for convenience (not to say that we aren't excited about it, but we never even considered other resorts). I definitely don't mind kids-- I actually love seeing excited children in Disney.

No decisions yet, but thanks for all your suggestions!

How long is your Disneymoon?

I had exactly your problem and just couldn't decide resorts. I want to stay at them all!!

So we're staying AKL savannah view, GF Turret room (thanks for the photos Pezaddict), garden view Boardwalk and MK view BLT.

if you are having a longer trip (ours is 22 days) then consider trying a few!! I'm so excited!

It would probably be about 1 week. 22 days, that sounds amazing, I'm so jealous! I wish we could, but that probably wouldn't fly at work! Haha

Right now I think we're leaning toward BLT, GF, or BW. Location is a big plus for us, so we either would want to be on the monorail or able to walk to Epcot. We will be there during Food & Wine, so I should say walking to Epcot would be a BIG plus! We're total foodies.

we booked WL honeymoon suite for our Disneymoon! :)

We are going for our planning session in May and staying at the AKL (I've heard AKL and WL as the most common 'romantic' places to stay. I've also heard POR as being quiet and romantic.

Although, I think Disney in general just gives you a special 'magic' feeling no matter where you are...:goodvibes :wizard:

How exciting! I definitely agree that all the Disney hotels have that special feeling.

Right now, our plan is to stay in a GF turret room for 5 nights, take the 3-night Disney Dream cruise in a 1 bdrm suite, then back to the world for 3 nights in CR-CL or BLT (Fi has always wanted to stay there). We already have the cruise booked :woohoo:
All of our families will be staying at the Poly for 3 nights before the wedding, so we'll be there with everyone. I'm so excited!
