Our stateroom is a connecting -- tho it will be closed --- we did not request connecting, but love the room location.

Can anyone tell me if there's a big difference in having a connecting door OPTION???

ie-- does it change the layout or obstruct you in any way?

If you have a Cat4, the only difference is that the connecting door takes the place of a little corner bench you would have otherwise had.
In a lower category, it won't make much of a difference. When both doors are shut, there shouldn't be any more noise than what you may normally be able to hear from the room next door.

Once, we were in a one bedroom suite at a really nice hotel, and there was a connecting door off of the dining area. It was there so that the suite could become a two bedroom. The room next door was a standard hotel room. We never heard a peep coming from that room, but every once in a while, someone would try turning the handle, I guess to see if we'd left the door unlocked. Maybe they just wanted to see what the suite looked like.
But otherwise, it was not a problem at all. If you like your location, go with it!!

We had connecting staterooms, but we booked for the convenience of having 2 rooms. However when they were closed, it never caused a problem:sunny:

We had connecting rooms with my parents and saw no difference in the room layout.
Justmestace, have to say that my kids would always try opening connecting doors in hotels, etc. when they were younger before being told that it was NOT part of our room! Maybe that's what you heard!;)

Jammies, wish you were on my cruise! I've got 2 rooms side by side, but not "connecting" - none left!:worried: :rolleyes1 oh well, i'm not losing sleep over it!:cheer2:

We've had Cat 6 both with and without a connecting door. I don't really recall anything different. Of course it's been years, so there might be some minor detail I'm not remembering.

We were in a Cat. 5 with a connecting room door and, unfortunately, had a loud, obnoxious family in the room next door. Without ever having said a word to them, we knew the names of their kids by heart and could identify their distinctive whines at 100 paces. It seemed as if the door might have made it a bit noisier, but I have no basis for comparison. Our neighbors would have been noisy with a concrete wall instead of the door, however.

On the good side, it annoyed my kids enough that they now actually understand why we're always telling them to be quieter when we're staying in a hotel (or on a cruise ship).
