We're staying at ASSP November 14th - 23rd. We have 2 rooms booked. Has anyone ever had any problems getting connecting rooms? We're willing to wait to check in until they would become available.

Has anyone switched after a few nights that were unable to get connecting rooms at the beginning? I worked in the hotel industry for 14 years so I understand room requests on a significantly smaller level. Just very curious what everyone else's experience has been.

Thank you for any tips, suggestions, and experiences! :)

The room assigner at Sports will certainly do his/her best to grant your request for connecting rooms, but it's never a guarantee. A lot of families request the same, and there simply aren't enough connecting rooms to fulfill everyone's desire to have them. Waiting until later to check in can be counterintuitive as they'll be less readily available at night compared to the morning. If not assigned connecting rooms, you can absolutely let them know that you'll be willing to move once rooms do become available.

As far as check in one of our party members lives in Florida. She can check in at any time. Would you recommend her checking in as early as possible? Thank you again for any advice or suggestions! We'll be happy either way, but with a 3 and 4 year old having that connecting door would be a life saver! :)

Check in time doesn't matter. Rooms are assigned a few days before arrival regardless of when you check in.

In Dec at AKL they could not honor our request for connecting rooms initially. We arrived at the hotel early too due to an early flight, about 11am. I escalated it to the manager who did her best, but there was nothing available, even with me offering to pay for upgraded rooms to have them connected. We were able to move the second day to connecting rooms, but it was kind of a pain for a short trip. Better than nothing though.

OP, you could wait days at checkin. Here's why in a simple example. Say there are 4 rooms, ABCD and AB and BC connect. You are checking into two of those rooms. To get a room somebody has to check out on the day you arrive. In this simple case, there are 14 possible checkout scenarios and only 6 get you a connecting room. If there is only 1 connecting pair it's 4 checkout scenarios. In other words, there are always more ways you can't get connecting rooms. As you have worked in the industry I'm sure you understand this like I do as a hotelier (others on this board may not).

The other complication at Disney that many hotels do not have is Disney's high proportion of people staying more than the typical one or two nights. With 5, 6, 7 or longer night stays more the norm checkout of connecting rooms is less common.

However, with Disney mentioning the need given the young children will increase your chances. Make sure it's noted on your reservation and they do their best to accommodate this and I've heard this leads to pretty good success.
