Confusion with Starwood ( Swan and Dolphin) SPG discount rates

One other note. If you belong to AAA you can become a Preferred Plus Guest and recieve almost the same benefits as a Gold Member minus the 50PCT points or miles bonus. It is definately worth the ugrades.

Absolutely!! I had Preferred Plus for a while before I got a plat. Amex and upgraded to gold status :)

There are people on this (and other Disney boards) that only know about Starwood from reading these boards, and possibly aren't aware of the full list of benefits available to them at the Swan/Dolphin or other Starwood properties.

I'm a planner, I like to keep up with the travel programs I belong to--Emerald Club, SPG, Hilton Honors, etc. I'm not a frequent traveller by any means, but anything that could get me an extra perk is fantastic :cool1:

Im from Lex now living in Fl. SOG Fan. FT Member. I think everybody needs to opportunity to sleep in a Heavenly Bed at the Swan or Dolphin. Did you get the Free Weekend Night for every 3 stay period??

no. hmph. I haven't been targetted for a promo since last year. terribly frustrating....I made out like crazy last year with bonus points, free nights, etc. loved that. Not sure why I haven't qualified for much in 2005... :badpc:

I love Lexington--spent lots of time watching basketball games there :teeth:
We're closer to Ft. Knox these days--I've lived all over the state, LOL

I am sorry if I came off wrong on my first post but intended to come across promoting the use of the benefits for programs. As for bashing me for conducting my first post by implying that I have no experience I thought that was a little harsh. Like I said, Im sorry if I came off wrong but I did not appreciate it. I would like to think I have alittle experience since I travel 6 months out of the year and belong to the best resources in the world.

"I am pretty sure so called "elite" members realize why they should reserve a less expensive room." If this was the case then I would never hear or see Gold or PLT ask the questions that they do at hotels and the same for top tier members of specific airlines. If you know the program you belong too in and out, you will travel for a lot less, stay in nicer accomodations and become an assest to others.

Take Care,

rparmfamily - You have now edited your original post so I can't quote it but I thought you were rather harsh as well. Something along the lines of being amazed by elite members not knowing the benefits of their membership level. That is why I responded the way I did. My specific question was about Instant Awards, not the benefits I get as a Platinum status member. I wanted to know if anyone knew what the Instant Awards were and how many points they were specifically at the Dolphin. I assumed from your original post you thought I wasn't aware of what my membership perks were. Forgive me if my assumption was incorrect. Instant Awards is what I was asking about....little extras you can purchase with points at check-in. Since I am Platinum, I always try and get the least expensive rate I can find and then let the magic work, LOL. ;)

Welcome to the DIS! :wave2: A large number of us are well traveled and quite handy when it comes to finding travel deals/packages/rates, etc. Be sure and ask questions and offer up any advice or knowledge you may have! Again, WELCOME! :cool1:

For those who collect and obtain status from SPG. There is an offer out there that allows you to earn 2x the daily status requirements. For example, If it takes you 10 stays or 25 nights to earn gold, now it will only take 5 stays or 13 nights if you are allowed to sign up for it.

hey...where'd this post come from? did I miss something? This wasn't here before, was it? LOL...

Do you have to get an e-mail from SPG to be eligible?? Knowing my luck, you probably do.

:::kicks dirts, mutters something about never qualifying for the good promos, walks away:::

I think its a targeted offer but they offered it to me when I called and I never got anything in the mail so I thought it might be something useful for you to look into. I am going to use it for PLT.

Queen, once again I apologize for seeming harsh. Thanks for the warm welcome and have a great weekend.

The aladin is now a starwood property and im going to use my freenights possibly there next year.

I went back and re-read over at Flyertalk. Seems a lot of loyal SPG Gold didn't get any promos. I'll call tomorrow and see if I'm eligible for anything :)

Yeah reading the posts are interesting. A lot of loyal individuals seem to never get targeted and it has to be frustrating. I would definately call them to see what they can do and espically if they want your business or they probably know your staying with them anyway so they don't need to give you any extras. Who knows but good luck with the phone call.
