Confused with the pins

How do you get them?
Is it the sign up for updates thing at the bottom of the WDW website?
Do you have to have gone to disney before?

EDIT: i just read the sticky. So that kinda answerd my question. But I am going with my aunt in may, if i get a code can we use it to book the room? It would be under her name since disney will still see me as a "child"

I'm not an expert on this, BUT, for instance if you get the PIN in your name, you can then book the room. Or if your aunt gets the PIN, she can book it. Its a family member thing I think. The reservation goes under the name of the person offered the PIN.
