When we called mousekeeping on the 4 th day we were told that we are scheduled for full cleaning on the 4th day and T/T on the 8th.
It was no big deal to me but confusing nonetheless.

If your stay was 8 nights or more, that is correct.

For stays of 8 nights or more, you get full cleaning on day 4 and trash and towel on day 8.

For stays of 7 nights or less, you only get one service...trash and towel on day 4.

Oooohhh for some reason I thought it was the other way around ... Duh ... Thanks!

It seems backwards to me too, but since housekeeping does a full cleaning when a guest checks out, I figure that is the reasoning for doing the full cleaning on day 4.

I've owned for over 10 years and for the life of me I swear if was the other way around... :rotfl2:
Obviously I was wrong ...

I've seen a little sign on the kitchen counter in the past reminding me about housekeeping services. It's always been less than eight nights, T&T on day 4. Eight nights or more, full cleaning on day four, T&T on day 8.

Think about it. You are going to be there eight nights. What is the point in giving you clean sheets on day eight if you are only going to be there one more night?

Why don't we get Mousekeeping everyday? We pay $30,000 for DVC then $1400/year only to get it once a week? And only partial services at that?

Timeshares typically do not have daily housekeeping. To provide it would likely require increasing the housekeeping portion of the dues (currently one of the highest items in your dues) by 2 to 3 times, and there are many who would rather not have daily housekeeping including because of the higher dues that would be required. Thus, if you want it you can pay the extra fee for it and not have other members bear the cost through dues. Note, if I recall correctly, OKW originally did have daily housekeeping but it did not last for long.

Because if they did that, you wouldn't be able to afford the maintenance fees! I HATE having housekeeping in during our stay anyway. I'd be happy if they would just make sure they do an extra good cleaning between guests and let me take care of things myself while I'm there.

Because dues would be much higher to pay for it. Housekeeping is the highest item in the dues operating budget. With the current system, for 2013 the dues for housekeeping at BWV is $1.04 per point. If it was daily, it could easily be 3 or 4 times that. I like the system, those who want more frequent housekeeping can pay for it and allow the rest of us who don't want it have lower dues.

If they did, it didn't last but a few months. It was limited housekeeping when I bought in May 1992. The resort opened December 20, 1991.

I'm one that really LIKES not having daily housekeeping services. I think the current schedule is a great compromise, rather than no service at all.

I take it this way. I don't vacuum every day. I don't change towels every day. I make my bed every morning and only change sheets once a week. It's my home away from home.

Totally agree. When we stay at hotels for more than one night, we usually put a note out for the cleaners to skip our room. I think the DVC schedule is great.

Exactly. I don't like Mousekeeping in the room myself. We can make our own beds and hang the towels up to dry. I would not be for raising dues, to get it more often.

Thank you everyone for explaining why we don't get it the way I thought we would. And thanks for the chart Debbie B!

With that said tough, I like having housekeeping come and make the bed, take the trash out, etc. for several reasons... 1) We are on vacation... I don't want to have to work while away. 2) My wife is disabled and I do almost everything for her. I barely can keep up at home. So it is amazing how often housekeeping comes in and takes care of every little need on the Disney cruises, but nothing at the resort? 3) We bought DVC on the cruise and loved how much they make you feel at home and part of,DVC with the party and the magnets, etc. When we stay at Disney's Boardwalk Villa's this year before our Fantasy cruise we didn't feel any of the same magic as we did on the cruise. There was no fanfare, no magnet on the door, no gift in the room, no party, no housekeeping during the 3 nights before the 7 night cruise. It really bummed us out that we felt ordinary at the resort in the Happiest Place on Earth but VIP on the cruise. Shouldn't we also feel the pixie dust at the resorts?

There's a big difference between exchanging out to cruise and "going home" to your home away from home resort. In the case of the exchange for the cruise, you are NOT in a DVC unit, so you aren't paying additional dues on those services, but you are paying dearly for the use of the cruise with your points.

Unless you get fanfare at your home for staying in it, you probably shouldn't expect fanfare from your "home away from home" either. You get what you pay for, and if you want or need those "extra" services, you can purchase them much like you can hire a housekeeper at home. If everyone got all the extra bells and whistles all the time, all of our maintenance fees would quadruple!

I totally understand where you're coming from.
If housekeeping is important for you, spring for the extras. I did exactly that when we took my huge family on a dvc stay. My parents are used to daily cleaning at a hotel so we decided to do that and everybody's happier... albeit with lighter wallet... :lmao:

Well, unless you are in California at Grand Californian Villas, you are at the most magical place on earth (MK), not Happiest Place on Earth (DLR).

I guess your idea of pixie dust is different from mine. I just like being there. King sized bed. Living room, tvs in both rooms. Nice kitchen, washer and dryer so I can go home with clean clothes. No little tiny hotel room.

OK - I'm going to link this thread with my guilty pleasure! HAHA

The only ready why I would even miss housekeeping is my guilty love of the H2O bath products! HAHA

The only reason why we let them in for towel and trash service mid-week is to have enough extra toiletries to take home to use for a week to transition back to life as usual!

If they ever change toiletry products, we'll have the do not disturb sign out! HAHA

We usually wash a load of towels sometime during the week anyway - the shower doors usually make a mess, so we toss an extra towel on the floor to catch the extra water when you open the door after the shower.

Plus my DW usually uses a washcloth from the room to catch the condensation from her water bottle.

If we have trash, we take it out.

We keep the room either picked up or a total mess - it all depends on the vacation! HHI this summer with our nephew - he was 3.5 then so his stuff was everywhere!

I travel so much for work I usually keep all of my stuff pretty much together throughout a hotel stay.

I wouldn't want housekeeping in the room every day!
